Mr. George Robert Staley passed away March 5, 2013. Born in 1918, he was raised in Britton, OK and graduated from Britton High School in 1936 before continuing his education in aviation. George was in the Army Air Force serving as a pilot in WWII and later for Amoco Pipelines.
He always enjoyed figuring out how to fix anything from engines to clocks. His family and friends will greatly miss his witty and dry sense of humor, as well as his love for music.
In 1990, he married Doris Holeman Hopkins after their reintroduction at Britton High School’s 50 Year Class Reunion.
George is survived by his wife, Doris Staley of Edmond, OK; step daughter, Pam and Jim Stockard of Sapulpa, OK; step son, Ronald Cooper of Garber, OK; 3 step grandchildren, Kimberly Butler of Broken Arrow, OK, Jil and Guy Gaylor of Jenks, OK and Jennifer Cooper of New York; 2 great step grandchildren, Katelyn Butler and Jase Gaylor; brother-in-law, George Cooper; niece, Vicki Cooper and her children, Rachel and Andrew Atchly of Denver, CO; nephew, Larry and Ann Cooper of Tuttle, OK and their children, Kelly Cates and Nicki Stein.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Manluff and Myrtle Steers Staley; his older brother, Franklin Staley; sister, Mary Evelyn Cooper; and step daughter, Susie Cooper.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent to Chisholm Creek Baptist Church Building Fund.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 8th at the Matthews Funeral Home Chapel in Edmond with Dr. Dan Maxwell and Dr. Jim Davidson officiating. Interment will follow at Gracelawn Cemetery, also in Edmond.
