Geneva “Annie” Tytenicz
1924-2016
Geneva “Annie” Tytenicz, age 92, was born July 12, 1924 in Harrah, OK to Wasyl and Theresa Rostykus and departed this life November 11, 2016.
Annie was raised by her Ukrainian parents on their family farm and learned to speak English when she started school in Harrah, where she continued through the eighth grade. Annie was 16 years old when she married Paul Tytenicz on January 28, 1941. They began farming in Jones and quickly started a family with the birth of Agnes Marie in 1942 and Leo Paul in 1943. She was a housewife and helper to her husband on their farm. After Paul broke his back in an accident she attended nursing school, became an LPN and served in that capacity for over thirty years. After retiring she and Paul worked at Jones schools as custodians.
Annie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, son-in-law Rufus Biggs, granddaughter April Primo, and her seven siblings: Jake Rostykus, Leo Rostykus, Helen Hopcus, Martha Hopcus, Agnes Minter, Tommy Rostykus, and Johnny Rostykus. She lived a very long and full life!
She is survived by her son Leo Tytenicz and daughter-in-law Brenda; granddaughter Treasure Morgan and husband Danny; and grandson Shane Tytenicz and wife Luciana.
Annie was a great cook; she could take the toughest cut of meat and turn it into a delicious meal; cabbage rolls and pierogis were her specialty and family favorites. She enjoyed gardening, canning her produce, and sharing it with others. She loved her flowers and enjoyed sitting on her front porch where she could keep an eye on the neighborhood. She was a spunky and opinionated member of the Jones community but if there was a need, her overflowing generosity came to the rescue. Her unbridled humanity sometimes hid but never diminished the love in her heart. She was devoted to God, family, and community.
She will be greatly missed!
A special “thank you” to Bradford Village in Edmond for their care of Annie since April 2016, and to Physicians Choice Hospice for their care in her final days.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Jones IOOF in Jones, OK. Formal visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Matthews Funeral Home.
