Gay (McCammon) Chambers passed away peacefully at home on December 16, 2016. Gay was born on August 4, 1924 to Walter and Bessie (Shoup) McCammon in Oxford, Kansas. She spent her younger years on a fruit and vegetable farm. Her father also managed a swimming beach where Gay swam every chance she got. In 1936 Gay and her family moved to a farm outside of Eureka, Kansas. She met her future husband while attending Eureka High School. After graduation, she married Harold Chambers in Watertown, New York in August 1942. From Watertown she followed Harold to many different military bases. After Harold returned from overseas, they lived in Eureka for several years. They lived in several locations in Oklahoma and Kansas until the early 1950’s when they moved to Hays, Kansas which became their family’s home. In 1984 Harold and Gay moved to Edmond, Oklahoma where Gay lived until her death. They had a very happy marriage for 51 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 51 years, and five siblings (Alice, Eldon, Dorothy, Claude, and Don). Gay is survived by her three children, Terryl (Gene) Bieker, Art (Aggie) Chambers and Toni Chambers; two sisters (Theo and Neva), eight grandchildren and their spouses, seventeen grand children and a former husband.

Gay enjoyed her family and their many activities. Summer vacations all across the United States always resulted in many fond memories. Her love for travel continued her entire life and included visits to all 50 states, Australia and Europe. Gay learned to play cards from Harold and she was always ready to play any card game, especially pinochle and bridge. Although she never worked outside the home she kept busy doing typing for college students and small businesses. Gay learned to sew from her mother and she continued to use that skill throughout her life. She made quilts for all of her grandchildren and special Christmas stockings for all of her children, grandchildren, their spouses and her great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society in her name.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 18, 2015 at Santa Fe Presbyterian Church, Edmond, OK. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka, Kansas.
