Gary Mike Frans

1942-2020Frans, Gary

Born February 24, 1942, and passed on from this life on Thursday, January 2, 2020. Gary went to Hawthorne Elementary, Taft Middle School, graduating from the old Classen High on N.W. 18th Street in 1960. Gary was always good at math, and in 1964 earned an engineering degree in computer science from OU. He was on the cutting edge of the computer revolution, and recruited by Rocketdyne in Canoga Park, California, the summer after college to work on the Saturn V and Space Shuttle engine programs, where he was later put in charge of the quality control group that oversaw software for the space shuttles. His position allowed him to travel to Florida several times to view shuttle launches. After the Rocketdyne space programs expired, he then worked for Litton Corp for two years before taking a position with Boeing, where he stayed for 39 years, retiring in the early 90’s. Gary was a Life Master bridge player, and for a time was Director of the Reseda Bridge Club in California, while also earning a Masters Degree from USC. After moving back to Oklahoma City in the spring of 2019, he suffered a tragic car accident that left him bedridden for months. He was as kind and gentle a person you would ever meet, always true to his friends and spoke of them frequently. You never heard him utter a bad word about anyone. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edway and Doris Frans, and is survived by his brother Stephen R. Frans, a nephew, Sean Ryan Frans and niece, Rachel Frans, as well as their mother, Charlet Frans Sauls.
