Garry Wayne Vickers

July 29, 1955 – April 2, 2023

Garry Wayne Vickers, longtime resident of Edmond, OK passed away with family by his side on Sunday April 2, 2023, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, OK. He had been a patient and resident of The Lawton Veteran’s Center for five years. Garry was much loved by his family and friends.

Garry was born July 29, 1955 in Sylacauga, Alabama as the youngest child of Malcolm E. and Mildred Vickers. He had two older siblings, Ronnie G. Vickers and Barbara Gail Hook. He spent his younger years in Alabama living in several cities: Sylacauga, Arab, and Huntsville, AL. When Garry was 15 years old the family moved to Edmond, OK. Where he finished high school at Edmond Memorial High School in 1976. He joined the United States Marine Corp on February 9, 1976, completing his tour of duty with the military on January 14, 1980. Garry completed two years of college at Wytheville College in Wytheville, VA and then later worked as a Licensed Electrician. Garry moved between Sylacauga, AL, and Edmond, OK for several years. However, he became a 100% service-connected disabled veteran and was no longer able to work and returned for the last time to Edmond, OK in 1998 where he has lived until his passing on this Palm Sunday.

Garry had one child, Mandy L. Vickers, from a former marriage. Garry was saved by Jesus and strong in his faith and love of Jesus as his Savior. He was a member of the Baptist denomination where he was baptized as a young boy at the First Baptist Church in Arab, Alabama. Even though Garry went through many tribulations and hardships in his life, his belief and love of God never wavered. He held steadfast in his Faith and talked often of meeting all his loved ones in Heaven. Garry is survived by his daughter, Mandy L. Vickers and granddaughter, Kaylee R. Vickers both of Edmond, OK. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Gary L. and Barbara Gail Hook, a nephew, Christopher L. Hook, 2 great nephews, Tristyn and Paxton Hook and a great niece, McKaylah Hook. Garry was loved by his family and equally loved them.

Garry was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Malcolm E. and Mildred Vickers, and his older brother, Ronnie G. Vickers, whom he loved dearly.

Public visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home.

Graveside servcies will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond, OK.
