Frederick “Rick” Eugene Zimmerman
1957 – 2020
Frederick ‘Rick’ E. Zimmerman, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and resident of Edmond, OK, unexpectedly passed away, while surrounded by loved ones, on June 5, 2020 at the age of 62, after a hard-fought battle with an aggressive cancer.
Rick is survived by his wife of 35 years, Susan; his children, Joshua (Kelley), Sarah (Aaron Aab), and Steven; his grandchildren, Kendall, Jett, Valerie, Emma, Ivan, and Aaliyah. His sisters, Kathi (Frank Miller) and Sharon (John Kucewicz).
Rick was born in the Panama Canal Zone on a US Military Base June 29, 1957 to Frederick H. and Barbara Zimmerman. A graduate of Voorheesville High School 1975 where he then served with the Army National Guard. He was a proud forty-year truck driver, most recently with Old Dominion Freight Line in Oklahoma City, OK earning the 1 million perfect miles for outstanding performance in 2018.
Rick met his wife, Sue, on a blind date in 1983. They were married on September 8, 1984 in Upstate New York, where they raised their family, until their move to Oklahoma in 2010. Rick had a love for the American flag, the NY Jets, the Oklahoma City Thunder and his many German Shepherds over the years.
He will be remembered by his loving family as a dedicated and hard worker. He never had anything he couldn’t fix or build. An active supporter for his children’s and grandchildren’s sports and activities. He enjoyed golfing with his sons and loved beating them. He loved his family more than anything.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Country Roads Animal Rescue Society of Oklahoma City, OK (www.countryroadsanimalrescue.com/) or Oklahoma German Shepherd Rescue, Inc of Tulsa, OK (www.oklahomagsr.org/)
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 15 at 3:00 P.M. at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel.
