1941 – 2022

Francis “Sonny” Everett Sage was born in Canandaigua, NY on May 5, 1941 to Francis E. and Marie B. Sage. He graduated from Victor Central School in 1959, went on to Clarkson College of Technology (now Clarkson University) in Potsdam, NY, graduating with MS, BS & PHD degrees in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of several honorary societies.
Sonny and the former Mona Kraai were married in Victor, NY, Sept 9, 1960, where they grew up and were classmates from kindergarten. They spent 10 years in Potsdam, NY before moving to Ponca City, OK in 1969. In 2019 they moved to Edmond, OK.
Sonny retired from Conoco in 1996 after 27 years with Conoco in Research and Development. After retirement he was active in the Ponca City community volunteering for several organizations. Especially important to him were the Opportunity Center and the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program.
He and Mona loved to travel and have been on all seven continents. New Zealand was his favorite place. Gardening, canning, fishing, traveling, and being with family were his favorite things.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Patricia Gullace.
Sonny is survived by his wife Mona of the home, daughters Ginger (Joe) Castleberry Edmond; and Michele (Ron) Walenciak of Ponca City; son Mike (Jill) of Wichita, KS; grandchildren Lauren (Thomas) Vaught, Hunter Castleberry and fiancé Shea Linse, Kyle Sage and Adrienne (Kurtis) Palmer; great-grandson Vander McLeod Vaught.
A Celebration of Sonny’s Life is planned for March 9, 2022, 3-5 pm. 601 S Kelly, Edmond, OK.
