mahan, evelyn picEvelyn Mahan passed away January 25, 2013 in Norman at the age of 87. She was born November 14, 1925 in Tulsa to Philip and Eva Breslin. She married Richard “Gene” Mahan in May 1952, and they were married until his death in September 2007.

Irene and Gene resided in Tulsa until 1986 when they moved to Edmond, OK, and then to Norman in 2007, to be close to family. Irene graduated from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa and earned a secretarial degree from the University of Tulsa while working at Citizens State Bank (which became Boulder Bank). During her 40 years with the bank, she became a vice president in the loan department. As a young woman, she earned her pilot’s license and loved to fly. She had a beautiful voice and sang a cappella in a quartet. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, brother “P.J.,” and her husband and best friend, Gene. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Borden, and her husband, Lee, of Norman; grandson, Patrick Roberts; nieces, Mary and Elizabeth Maggi; and her beloved extended family, Brook and Chris Arbeitman, Will and Jodana Borden, and their children, Knox, Jake and Ellie.

The family is grateful to the loving care she received over the last few months from the skilled nursing staff at Grace Living Center in Norman.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11:00am at Memorial Park in Tulsa.
