Emil Myron Vorel was born in Luther, Oklahoma, to Paul and Ethel Vorel on October 6, 1927. He graduated from Luther High School and enlisted in the Army Air Forces serving in the Aleutian Islands. After leaving the service, he returned to Luther where he met his wife Peggy Beesing at a local dance. They were blessed with 63 years of marriage. Emil worked for Mobil Oil and farmed. He started his own construction business and later worked for Cook Construction for 27 years. He ended his career in engineering at Presbyterian Hospital.
After retirement, he continued to farm and raise cattle. He lived a life of service to his family, country, and community. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, served on the Luther School Board, the CREC Foundation Board, and many other church and community boards. He attended First Christian Church of Luther his entire life. He was always proud to have his family fill the pews of the church for Christmas service. He loved his family and always loved and served the town of Luther. He also loved his morning visits to the café and catching up with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Vieva Yoesting and Nieva Munkres, and his parents. His life is celebrated by those he leaves behind: wife, Peggy; brother, Paul Jr.; and four children and spouses: Mike and Robin Vorel; Susan and Johnny Dean; Steven and Becky Vorel; and Cheryl and Scott Ballard; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and many family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society or the Luther Fire Department.
