1938-2017
Edwin “Ed” Penland passed away peacefully on December 26, 2017. Ed was born in Altus, AR, to Hugh and Floy Mae Penland on January 13, 1938. His early years were spent in Merritt, Oklahoma until 1948 when his family moved to Oklahoma City. In 1956, he married the love of his life, Dorothy (Lucas) Penland. Oklahoma City was home until the family moved to Edmond in 1964. In 1977 Ed founded United Acoustics, Inc. Ed was happy when first his son and later his grandson took an interest in the company. David and Andrew Penland are proud to continue the work Ed began 40 years ago. Ed and Dorothy were charter members of Henderson Hills Baptist Church and later became members at Quail Springs Baptist Church. They moved into the Bradford Village retirement community in Edmond 3 years ago.
Ed was a devoted husband, father, Grandad, Great Grandad, brother, uncle and friend to many.
He and Dorothy loved to travel, most recently in their RV. They made many good friends through their travel club, and spent many fun winters in Donna, TX.
Ed is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Bradford Village, his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Steve Peterson of Edmond, his son and daughter-in-law, David and Jennifer Penland, of Edmond; 4 grandchildren, Andrew (Brandy) Penland, Sarah (Dane) Wilber, Lucas and Seth Peterson, and 4 great children, Caroline and Anderson Wilber, Charlie Mae and Remington Lou Penland. Ed is also survived by his brother, Jerry (Cindy) Penland and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Glen, Jack, Frank and sister, Shirley Griffin.
Special thanks to care givers, Diana Dobkins of Edmond, Mike, ICU Nurse Baptist Hospital, Jenny Kulp, ICU Nurse Baptist Hospital, Dr. Michael Keefer, Oncologist, Dr. William Cook, Pulmonologist, and Integris Hospice. These people are the living angels that surrounded Ed in his final days in his earthly home. The care provided made these days some of our best. May God continue to bless and keep them. In lieu of flowers, Ed requested that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 6601 North Broadway Extension, Oklahoma City, OK, 73116 or at alz.org/oklahoma in honor of his wife, Dorothy Penland.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 10:30 am at First Christian Church, Edmond, OK.
