Eddie Shelby

Eddie Shelby

1953-2024

Eddie Shelby, age 70, passed away on January 30th, 2024, due to complications associated with Primary Progressive Aphasia.  He was born on April 19th, 1953, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was very active in baseball growing up and his favorite team was the “St. Louis” Cardinals.

He was a die-hard Sooner fan and loved NASCAR. At Edmond High School, he was part of the 1971 State Relay team. As an adult he played softball for many years, where he made lifelong friends. He married Becky in December of 1984, because that was the only month that didn’t involve softball. In 1986, his son Shea was born, and in 1988 his daughter Lynlee came along. He spent numerous years coaching his kids in baseball and basketball. In 2011 his grandson Oaklan was born, who became his “best” buddy and traveling companion.  Some of their favorite things to do were riding go-carts, spending time in the water, and working in the yard.

He was preceded in death by his father Edgar Shelby, mother Virginia Shelby, and brother Steven Shelby.  Also, mother-in-law Ruth Barber, father-in-law Dwayne Barber, and sister-in-law Debbie Dunbar.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years Becky; son Shea and partner Katie Warner; daughter Lynlee; and grandson Oaklan.  He leaves behind sisters-in-law Cindy Barber and partner Ricky, Karen Meza and husband Joe, Martha Gatewood, Terri Bennett and husband Michael, and Carolyn Dempewolf and husband Tony. He is survived by a special niece and nephew, Haley and Nick Barber, and great-niece Madelyn Pendegraph.  He also leaves ten other nieces and nephews who he greatly loved.

Special thanks to John Stanila and wife Debbie, Steven Glover, Stephanie Pryor, Taylor Pettyjohn, Mikki Tomlinson, Diana and Joe Bernardi, the “Bunco” girls, Traditions Hospice, and finally to Northwest Nursing Center for their great care of Ed.

  1. We were so sad about Eddie’s health struggles and now hearing of his passing. Mark reminisced of several hunting trips with Rex, Kenny and Eddie. He also has fun memories of he and Eddie being spade champs.❤️. Eddie was a good guy!
We hope you and your family remember and enjoy happy stories during this time.

  2. Becky and family, I’m sorry for your loss. I remember lots of fun nights at the softball fields when Greg played against Eddie. Sending hugs and prayers for strength and comfort to you all. Marsha Cordray Baxter

  3. Becky & family- im so very sorry to hear of Eddie’s passing. Knowing he a better place and at peace.
I wish I would have kept in better touch all these years after High School & a couple years of college before we moved with my job out of state.
The last couple days I have been flooded with memories.
I watched the beautiful service. What a great tribute.
Becky – you have a beautiful family. No doubt Eddie was very proud.
