Eddie Joe Powell
Eddie Joe Powell, 80, of Edmond, OK, husband of Linda Ruth (Nunley) Powell for 59 loving, wonderful years, passed away on October 13th, 2017, after a hard fought battle with pneumonia. Eddie was born on January 20, 1937, in Comanche County, Oklahoma, to Clarence Cartee and Erta Archie (Gibson) Powell. Eddie was preceded in death by brothers Willard and R.D. and is survived by brothers Walter and Don. Eddie is also survived by his sons, Kelly and his wife Bev (Surratt), and Jon and his wife Lisa (Schaefer), and by his grandson Zane. Eddie had two callings in life: gladly doing whatever Linda needed or asked him to do, and teaching math. Countless students benefited from Mr. Powell’s infinite patience and wry humor. Mr. Powell taught in Lawton, OK; Alamogordo, NM; Edmond, OK; and, for 33 years, at Casady School in Oklahoma City. Eddie often said, looking back on his life, that he wouldn’t change a thing. A Memorial Service will be in the Chapel of St. Edward the Confessor at Casady School on Saturday, October 21st, at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Casady School or to samaritanspurse.org.
Eddie was a great husband, father, brother, uncle, son, grandfather, father-in-law, and teacher. The world is a better place because Eddie touched many with his wisdom, humor, and gentle spirit.
Eddie was a very special uncle. Our birthdays are one day apart and he was not much older than me. His very first year teaching at Central Junior High in Lawton, I was his student. HE taught English at that time and book reports are part of English. My friend and I did not want to get up in front of class and give ours so he arranged for us to come after school and give ours. He was a great teacher but calling him Mr. POwell was hard to do. I will miss him so much. I always and will still think of him on our birthdays. Love you Eddie and prayers for family.
Eddie was such a kind gentleman. As a teacher and coach at Casady School, I was so very fortunate to have known Eddie.
During my basketball games, I could always look to his usual spot in the bleachers and see his smiling face. He never missed a game.
He was a favorite of many many Casady students and faculty.
When I think of him, I’ll remember that kind and smiling face.
Wonderful memories at Casady School……

Eddie was my Uncle. He always had time for me. His spirit, to me… was like a tree. He was constant, strong, and turned his face in the way that spirit demanded. He was kind and loving. He was very funny! His laugh was infectious and very beautiful! Could feel his and Linda’s love for the Earth when talking of trips, which included pictures of his children and their love too. A soul that will be missed so greatly, but also he is still working for all, just in another place.
