Jane Love Barta
October 27, 1925 – November 1, 2016
Our beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Jane Love Barta was released into the arms of the Lord on November 1, 2016, to be reunited with her beloved husband, Jack. She passed away at Epworth Villa in Oklahoma City from Alzheimer’s Disease. Jane was born to Joseph and Eva Love on October 27, 1925, in Oklahoma City. At an early age, she moved to Tulsa with her parents and younger brother, Bill. She graduated from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa, from William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri, and from Tulsa University with honors.
In 1945, she met the love of her life, John “Jack” Barta on a blind date. They were married on October 24, 1947, in Tulsa and spent 67 years together before Jack passed away in February 2015. They were blessed with three daughters, Becky, Barbee and Beverly.
Jane courageously endured the numerous moves of Jack’s 30-year Air Force career. These military assignments included time in Georgia, Japan, Hawaii, Ohio, Texas, Alabama, the Pentagon in Virginia, and Utah, before bringing them back to Oklahoma where Jack retired at Tinker AFB in April 1975.
Jane was a generous, gentle spirit who was always helping people and volunteering. She served as a Girl Scout leader for various troops in which her daughters participated from Ohio to Virginia. In later years, she was as a volunteer at the Will Rogers International Airport, as well as at the Capitol Building in OKC. She was also proud to be a “senior model” for the Edmond newspaper.
They settled in Edmond following Jack’s retirement, yet traveling was very much a part of their lives. They visited several foreign countries, finished visiting all 50 U.S. states, and many national parks where they often spent time with their daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren. Jane especially liked their trip to Alaska in their small plane, camping beside it along the way.
As a founding member of the Faith Bible Church in Edmond, Jane devoted much time to her faith and to the growth of the church. She was admired for the many Bible-study classes she taught and for her passion for the scriptures.
Friends were an important part of Jane’s life. Throughout the years, she and Jack kept in touch with, entertained, and traveled with friends they met throughout his career.
Jane is preceded in death by her husband Jack, and her parents, Joseph and Eva. Survivors include daughters, Becky (husband Jerry) and grandson Randy (wife Krista), Barbee (husband Brad), and Beverly (husband Jim) and grandsons, Jason and Jordan; brother Joseph W. Love, Jr. and G.W.; sister-in-law Nora, and niece and nephews, Kele, Stan, Steve and John and their families.
Jane was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Although we miss her with all our hearts, we know the Lord is taking care of her and Jack in Heaven. Her family is grateful to and thanks the staff of Epworth Villa Assisted Living and Household 3, and the staff of Epworth at Home-Hospice for the kindness, compassion, and grace they showed her while she was in their care.
Visitation will take place from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday November 6th at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond. Funeral services will be held on Monday November 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Brill Chapel at Epworth Villa, 14901 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, in Oklahoma City.
