Doyle Hayes Gregg left this world peacefully to enter into his heavenly reward November 17, 2013 at the age of 92. Doyle was born June 26, 1921 to John Hiram and Ila Collier Gregg in Rockford, Illinois.
The family moved to Edmond, Oklahoma when Hiram was discharged from the Army, then moved on to Dallas, Texas when Doyle was in high school.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a ferry pilot. After honorable discharge from the Navy, he was an independent grocer in San Francisco, California and then moved his family back to Edmond, Oklahoma, settling in The Village in Oklahoma City.
He worked for Tom’n’Jerry Markets while attending Central State College, was a postal clerk, and then found the job he loved, Air Traffic Controller at Will Rogers, and Wiley Post Towers. He later taught air traffic control at the FAA Aeronautical Center. He loved gardening and fishing, particularly enjoying family trips to Red River, New Mexico.
Doyle was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Mildred Sipe Gregg, his parents, Hiram & Ila Gregg, his step-mother, Ana Gregg, brothers: Ward, Robert, and Harold, and sisters: Dolly Dollar and Helen Caldwell McDonald. Survivors include his son, John Benjamin Gregg and wife Patricia of Granbury, Texas, daughter, Karen Kay and husband, Donald J. Moore formerly of Edmond, now Coweta, Oklahoma, and daughter, Cherry Marie and husband, James King of Oklahoma City, grandchildren Darin (& Rika) Jeffers, Ted (& Amanda) Jeffers, Jerry (& Eden) Moore, Rebecca Moore, Joy (&John) Perrin, and Ben Gregg, and step-grandchildren, Todd (& Sheri) King and Stacy Kauk and 10 great-grandchildren: Derrick, Rianne, Emily, Abby, and Jack Jeffers, Whitney, Madelyn, and Ainsley Moore, and Josh, and Sam King.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 22, 2013 at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery.
