Douglas Wayne Eck

1938-2015

Douglas Wayne Eck died peacefully to be with his heavenly Father Wednesday morning, July 8th, 2015.  Douglas was born March 5th, 1938, in Portales, NM, to Boyce & Gladys Eck.  He grew up in New Mexico and after graduating from Clovis High School, he enlisted in the Air Force where he trained in Meteorology.  After service in the Air Force he worked 20 years for the National Weather Service as a meteorologist.  He married Janice Woods September 17th, 1965, and she remained the love of his life until death.  Most of the years spent with the National Weather Service were in Abilene, Texas.  He became quite famous for his slow Texas drawl when giving the weather reports on the radio.

In 1980 he retired from the weather service and moved to Oklahoma City where he took over and bought the family plumbing business:  Woods Plumbing Company.  He was a member of Cherokee Hills Christian Church where he was a deacon and then later a member of Westside Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife Janice Eck, Sister Donna Foster of NM, daughter Denise McDougal and her husband Wes McDougal of OKC, son Dennis Eck and his fiancé Becky Pitts of Edmond, daughter April Chasteen and her husband Bobby Chasteen of Blanchard, daughter Dian Taylor and her husband Brett Taylor of CO, nephew & niece Mark & Marla Foster of NM.  Also survived by, niece Tracy Porter and husband Matt, sister and brother-in-law Alma and Hilton Kaderli, nephews Will and Hilton Kaderli Jr., sister-in-law Dian Glazier, and nephew Scott Glazier.  Grandchildren; Cody Taylor, Kristen Morris, Sara Whitley, Olen Chasteen, Justin Liberman, Jordon Eck, Nickolas Whitley, Nicole Whitley, Ryan Taylor, and Great Grandchildren; Isaac Defour, Hayden Taylor, and Paisley Taylor.  He is preceded in death by his beloved sister Doris Tedder.

Douglas lived his life as an honest and humble man.  His quiet mannerisms and sense of humor were legendary.  His faith was strong in the Christian faith.  He once wrote: “It’s not hard to get to heaven, it is a gift and it shouldn’t be rejected.”

He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
