Dorothy R. (Dot) Maker
1926-2019
Dorothy R. Maker passed away on May 2, 2019 at Teal Creek Assisted Living Center in Edmond, Oklahoma. She was born on September 4, 1926 at Athens, Wisconsin to Paul and Marie Pawlowski. Dorothy was the 12th child of 13. She had 4 brothers and 8 sisters. She married her late husband Roy Maker in 1974. She and Roy met while they were both working for Safeway Grocery in Edmond. They both went on to retire from Homeland stores on the same day. They were married for 42 years.
Dorothy was preceded in death by husband Roy, her mother and father, 4 brothers and 8 sisters, one son, Alvin and his wife Delma. Dorothy is survived by 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren and 1 great great great granddaughter, 2 step daughters along with a host of other family members and friends.
She and Roy lived a very busy life. They traveled extensively over the entire country. They had a 5th wheel camper and truck and they used it for many years. They also enjoyed time at Lake Eufaula where they owned a lakeside home. They loved to fish for crappie and were very successful at it. They also enjoyed friends and family coming to the lake for overnight visits.
At one point in their lives they learned to square dance. She said she had to talk Roy into it, because he said he couldn’t dance. She told him she would buy him a truck if he would do it.
Dorothy and Roy loved to visit with people wherever they went. For many years after they settled in Edmond, every morning they would go to Wal-Mart Store on Danforth and Santa Fe and walk thru the store and pass out hugs to all the employees. After Roy passed away she continued doing the same thing by herself for over 2 years. After that she had two nephews that would take her by the store and let her walk thru and pass out hugs again. The last few months of her life she was not able to do it, but several of the employees would come by Teal Creek and visit with her.
She enjoyed going every Thursday to get her hair done and going out for lunch at Pickles to eat catfish or Mazzios for pizza. She really enjoyed the apple dessert they serve. She never could stop at just one slice of apple dessert.
She loved her church, Covenant Presbyterian Church. She said that she and Roy would always sit on the back row. Thank you to her church for showing your love to her.
Thanks goes out to those that took care of her the last 18 months. Thanks to Kristie, the nurses and staff at Teal Creek who gave immeasurable care, love and patience. Thanks to Mercy Hospital, for being so thorough and gentle with her every time we brought her to the emergency room. Bradford Village for the 2 times she was in rehab and for the little toy dog you gave her. The dog, Goldie, became her companion every day until she died. Also, thanks to Good Shepherd Hospice for the loving care, compassion and all the trips you made to Teal Creek to check on her. Each and everyone of you did a phenomenal job in caring for her and she received such good loving care from each one of you.
Dorothy really enjoyed her home in Edmond. She and Roy would always have flowers planted and the yard was always manicured. They hosted several Christmas reunions for their extended Maker Family.
Services will be handled by Matthews Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at the Covenant Presbyterian Church in the Village on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday May 7, 2019 at the funeral home.
