Dorothy Ann Budde

Dorothy Ann Budde

1935 – 2024

Dorothy A Budde, 89 years old, went home to be with the Lord on October 28, 2024, at Integris Hospice House.

Dorothy was born March 31, 1935, in St Louis, Missouri to the late Cecel and Leonard Bartlett. She was an only child. Dorothy graduated from University City High School (St. Louis) and attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Dorothy married the late George H. Budde Jr. in 1956. Dorothy and George had 2 children, a daughter Karen A. (Budde) Winnett and a son, George H. Budde III.  Dorothy was raised attending the Memorial Presbyterian Church (on Skinker Blvd.) in St. Louis. She later became a member of the Lafayette Church of Christ in Ballwin, Missouri. After moving to Edmond, Oklahoma she became a member of the Edmond Church of Christ.

Dorothy retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1987 after over 32 years of employment. She started out as a telephone operator and later served as a secretary to the maintenance department, and finally working in the SW Bell White pages creating white page directories.  Ironically,  the last white pages she worked on were for towns all over Oklahoma.

Dorothy loved all kinds of crafts and needlework. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed cross-stitch, knitting and crocheting. She had made many quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dorothy and her husband George were longtime members of the St. Louis Archery Club and traveled many places participating in archery tournaments. They developed many treasured friends at the club.

Dorothy loved to travel and was fortunate to have traveled in Europe touring Europe’s best castles. She enjoyed cruises to Hawaii, Alaska, and the Northeast in the fall. She especially enjoyed the Seniors Group from Edmond Church of Christ’s annual trips to Branson, Missouri.

Dorothy was a member of the Ballwin Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and after moving to Edmond joined the local chapter in Edmond. She loved attending Red Hat lunches. Dorothy was always ready for an adventure and will be remembered for her easy-going personality and big smile. She loved making others feel special.

Dorothy leaves behind her 2 children, 3 grandchildren, Becky Winnett Fleeson (George) of Cheverly, Maryland, Dale Winnett (Christy) of Walbridge, Ohio and Laura Winnett Turman (Luke) of Edmond, Oklahoma.  Dorothy was also blessed with 9 great-grandchildren: Winnie, Ward, Edith, and Eliza Fleeson, Wyatt, Madeline and Stella Winnett and Ethan and Lydia Turman.  She will be missed by her family and many friends.

The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, November 8, 2024 at Matthews Funeral Home.

We only knew Dorothy for the few years we have been in Edmond, but we could always count on Dorothy being present for ladies’ class on Tuesday morning and Bible class on Sunday mornings. She will be missed by so many.
