Doris E. Peery
1937-2025
Doris Ethel Glenn Peery was born on January 11, 1937, in Waterloo, Oklahoma, on the Northwest corner of Broadway and Waterloo Road, to her parents, Clarence Everett Glenn and Doris May Ziegelgruber Glenn. She married Kenneth Leroy Peery on November 8, 1952, in Edmond, Oklahoma. Doris died on April 12, 2025, in Edmond, Oklahoma, at 88.
Doris only completed the 8th Grade and was married at 15. Four children, Marshall, Debra, Charles, and Lillian, were born into this marriage and three unnamed births. Doris became a widow at the age of 51 when Kenneth suddenly passed away on July 12, 1988, from congestive heart failure. Doris worked many jobs, starting with the Tastee Freeze, Frontier City, and as a sales clerk at C. R. Anthony’s, J.C. Penney’s, Hyde Drug, Eckerd Drug, and CVS, where she earned her 25 years of service award.
After Kenneth had his first heart attack in 1969, the family began attending the Edmond Pentecostal Holiness Church. Soon afterward, Kenneth and Doris gave their hearts to Jesus and were baptized on the same night.
Doris was a hard worker and made many friends with her customers throughout the years at all her places of employment. She was not ready to retire in 2020 at 83, but COVID-19 brought about many changes that forced her into retirement. Doris was an avid Thunder Fan and, for many years, kept a notebook of every team player along with the number of points they would score in each game. She also loved watching her Oklahoma Sooners play football.
During the last year of her life, Doris reconnected with church attendance by going with Marshall and Cherryl to North Church and then back to the little church, where it all started with Rick, Debra, and Lillian. She loved it there at Heritage Fellowship and missed it dearly when she could no longer physically attend.
Doris had three siblings who had all preceded her in death. Rolliegh Glenn, Jane Gullett, and Clarence Glenn. During the last few months of her life, Doris continued to spend most of her time conversing with these siblings, whom she had loved very much. In addition to these siblings and her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Kenneth Peery. Also preceding her was one son-in-law, Bruce McCrea.
She is survived by her four children, Marshall Peery and wife Cherryl of Edmond, Debra Hoel and husband Rick of Guthrie, Charles Peery and wife Carole of Edmond, and Lillian McCrea of Edmond. Nine grandchildren: Andrew Peery, Jeremy Peery, Tricia Hoel, Chris Hoel, Cassie Long, Candace Peery, Catherine Peery, Billy McCrea, and Kenneth McCrea. Eight great-grandchildren Colton Peery, Kali Peery, Christian Hoel, Noah Hoel, Madison Hoel, Matthew Adams, Isaac Long, Ian Long. Two great-great-grandchildren, Cohen Hoel and Brady Hoel. One cousin, Harrold Glenn, and many nieces and nephews.

So sorry to hear of Doris passing, I grew up in her neighborhood in Edmond down the street from Chitwood Park. I would always enjoy going to visit with her when I was a kid. Prayers for the family.
