Donald F. Nowak
Donald (Don) Francis Nowak, 90, of Edmond, went to be with his Savior on November 6, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.
Don was born on December 13, 1928 in Gorham, KS to John Nowak and Mary (Rusch) Nowak.
Don graduated from Gorham High School in 1946. Following his graduation, Don served for 2 years as a gunner on the 105 Howitzer in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was assigned to the 933rd FA BN and was Honorably Discharged as a Staff Sergeant. In 1953 Don married the love of his life, Mary Catherine Rajewski and was blessed with 6 children. After living in many locations, the couple moved to the Edmond, OK area in 1974. Don worked as a petroleum engineer for numerous companies, Shenandoah Oil and Tenneco Oil, retiring in 1988.
Don was active in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where he participated in Daily Mass. He was active in Time-Out program, the Kennagers and the Knights of Columbus. Don was also a member of the VFW and the DAV. Don always maintained a great attitude and a positive outlook. His legacy of kindness and generosity will live on through the lives of his family and those who knew him.
Don is survived by his children Ruth and David Phelps of Sapulpa, OK; Lynn and Dyanna Nowak of Hot Springs, AR; Duane and Kim Nowak of Moore, OK; Dennis and Sarah Nowak of Fulshear, TX and Phil and Julie Nowak of Stillwater; his 13 grandchildren: Ashley, Ben, Christopher, Collin, Faith, Jonathan, Kayleigh, Kelli, Kelsey, Lauren, Rachel, Taressa, and Tina; his 16 great-grandchildren: Bailey, Cainen, Chris, James, Jessica, Jordan, Keelyn, Kyler, Mackenzie, Maisyn, Makayla, Michael, Preston, Shayla, Son, Tyler and 2 on the way and his 2 great-great grandchildren: Braelyn and Mathew, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine Nowak, their daughter Donna Nowak and all of his siblings.
A wake is planned for Tuesday, November 12 at 7:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond. A funeral mass to celebrate Don’s life will be held Wednesday, November 13 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edmond.
