Deloris “Dee” Carney

Deloris “Dee” Carney passed from this earthly life on June 27, 2025, into the loving arms of Jesus. Dee leaves behind a legacy of faith, love and compassion. She was born Deloris Faye Henry on October 26, 1935, the eldest of six children, to Wade and Doris Henry in Hanna, OK. It was in Hanna where Dee met and married Ed Carney, Jr. To this union was born her two children, Ed Carney, III and Lisa Shockley. They settled in Oklahoma City in the early 60’s where Dee worked for the APCO Oil Co. and later for Western Electric until her retirement from Lucent Technologies. After Ed, Jr. died in 1992, Dee was reunited with his widower brother, Kenneth. Dee and Kenneth married in June of 1994. They lived happily together in OKC.

She moved to Edmond in 2005, a devoted Christian, she became a member of the Edmond Church of Christ. There she attended the Primetime Bible class where she made many dear friends. Dee loved to meet friends for cards and other games. As a teenager, Dee played high school basketball, a tenacious defensive player, she developed a lifelong love for the game. She attended OU Women’s games in Norman and when the Thunder came to OKC she became an instant fan. Russell Westbrook was her all-time favorite player. She enjoyed cheering them on while watching on TV with her family. An especially happy time was when she attended a live home game with her beloved granddaughter Ji LI, who shares her passion for the team.

Deloris is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L Carney; parents Wade and Doris Henry; Brothers, Joe Henry and Roland Henry. She is survived by her son, Ed Carney III and his wife Mary; her daughter Lisa Shockley and her husband Floyd; granddaughter, Ji Li Brackett and husband Denver; and two great-grandchildren, Lucas Noah and Sophia Rose Brackett, all from Edmond; sister, Janis and husband Paul, of Broken Bow; sister, Tey and husband Glenn of Tulsa; brother, Houston and wife Donna of Henryetta; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A celebration of Dee’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 5th, 2025, at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly, Edmond, Oklahoma 73003, (405)-341-2787.
