Deborah Jean Fillmore
Deborah (Debbie) Jean Fillmore, loving wife and mother of three children and 5 grandchildren, of Edmond, OK passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2019 surrounded by loving family and friends. She lost her battle to pancreatic cancer, but knowing that she would spend eternity with God she said, “I won.” Debbie was born on July 2, 1953 in Wynnewood, OK to Lauvell and Wilma Milligan. She grew up in Davis and later Guthrie, OK and graduated high school in Guthrie. She then attended Central State University in Edmond, OK. She worked throughout most of her life as a commercial account manager for several insurance agencies.
She married Alan in 1972 after being set up by his grandfather. Their marriage was one that everyone strives to have. They demonstrated unwavering devotion to one another as they raised their three children. Debbie had a passion for her family and friends and devoted her life to serving them. She was a beautiful example to each of us and continued to teach how to live a life of faith in Christ even in her final moments. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family, shopping for bargains, watching her grandchildren’s’ activities, spending time in Branson, and playing games with family and friends. Debbie was preceded in death by her father, Lauvell, her mother, Wilma, and her sister, Cathy. She is survived by her husband, Alan; 3 children and their spouses, Geoffrey and Summer Fillmore of Jenks, Kevin and Jennifer Fillmore of Choctaw, and Lindsey and Steve South of Tecumseh; grandchildren (Bryce, Grant, Berkley, Morgan and Graycen); her brother, Kenneth Milligan (wife Pam); her sister, Susan Latham (husband Larry); and multiple nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at 10 AM at Waterloo Baptist Church, 3100 E. Waterloo Road, Edmond, OK 73034. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to National Pancreas Foundation (https://pancreasfoundation.org/take-action-2/donate-to-npf/) in her memory.
Like so many with growing families, ours and Debbie’s crossed paths through our kids. Taking them to and from ball games, spending the night at each other’s homes, and one of our most memorable was Lindsey and Chris as Minnie Royalty at Meeker Homecoming in the late 80’s. As life continues though, our paths separate, the kids grow up, and all we have are a few pictures and our memories of those times that passed so quickly. A few years ago Alan and Debbie came by the house and it was so good to see them again after so many years. Debbie was as I always remembered her, full of life and always willing to laugh at my and Alan’s corny jokes (and we were full of them). When we got the word of Debbie’s passing, we were heavy hearted at first but upon realizing the battle she was in with pancreatic cancer and knowing that Debbie had been, through her faith, preparing for this journey most of her life, we were at peace. We pray for Alan, Geoffrey, Kevin, Lindsey, and all the grandkids that they quickly realize our journey on this earth is but a blink of an eye and that the real prize lies on the other side. Debbie, we’ll see you down the road when our time comes to take that journey.
