David William Cost

David William Cost

1956 – 2024

David William Cost passed away at home with his wife Debbie by his side on the evening of October 8, 2024, at the age of 68.

David was the second child to Herbert H Cost and Betty (Blanscet) Cost, born in Perryton, Texas, on January 8, 1956. Following in his father’s footsteps, David became a retail manager. After nearly three decades managing for several retailers including Walmart, he later transitioned to warehouse inventory management for Associated Wholesale Grocers. David retired in 2020 after 20 years of service to AWG. His adult life was spent serving as one of the highest examples of leadership with an unfailing work-ethic professionally. As a devoted husband and father, he was a reliable provider, sacrificial parent, and loving grandpa. One of David’s greatest gifts was sharing his faith through singing solos at church. David’s story tells of the man who did not let diabetes, heart issues, cervical degeneration, or three different cancers stop him from tending his gardens, building and reading an impressive home library, loving his grandchildren, and serving as an example of the rewards that come from never giving up no matter the circumstances or pain.

David is survived by his wife Deborah Ann (Pearce) Cost, sons Jason Hauck (from previous marriage) and Christopher Cost, daughters Rebecca DeAnne (Cost) Layne and Danielle Nicole (Cost) Whisenhunt, and elder sister Linda (Cost) Haws. From David’s surviving family, he inspired and loved his sons-in-law, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.  He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, and other family members from his parents’ vast extended families.

David’s passage into eternal life with his Heavenly Father is not the end but the continuing of a story which will include his ever-present inspiration and love through his everlasting spirit. May he find reunion with his long passed but never forgotten parents, family, and friends; and may God bless them for all time. Amen!

David wished for his passing to be celebrated simply by his immediate family followed by cremation. He will overlook his wife, daughter, and many grandchildren in spirt at his multi-generation home in Edmond, Oklahoma.
