Daniel W. Tubb
February 11, 1944 – May 22, 2020
On Friday May 22nd, Dr. Daniel William Tubb of Edmond, Oklahoma passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 76 from natural causes. Dan is survived my his wife Cecelia (“Sissy”), daughter Kimberly, son Jeffery, his two granddaughters, Katy and Marlina, and his brother, Dick.
Dan was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma in 1944 to parents James and Alberta Tubb, where he was raised as the youngest of four brothers, Jack, Dick, and Don. He graduated from Northeastern State University at the age of 19 before moving to Oklahoma City, where he attended medical school at the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine, becoming the youngest student at the time to ever graduate from that program.
It was during his time in medical school that he met and fell in love with his future wife Sissy, a Registered Nurse at Children’s Hospital. They were married the following year.
Dan and Sissy moved to Wichita, KS for his medical internship, where they welcomed their first child, Kimberly. Dan then served as a physician in a US Army M.A.S.H unit stationed in the Korean DMZ, before completing his surgical residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii, where their son Jeffery was born.
In 1973, Dan, Sissy, and their two children moved back to Oklahoma, where he served as Chief of Surgery at Fort Sill in Lawton, OK. They next moved to Edmond, where he went into private practice, serving the communities of Edmond, Guthrie, and El Reno for the next 35 years.
Not content to fully retire, Dan later spent two years practicing medicine in Masterton, New Zealand, where he expanded his already long list of beloved friends well into the Southern Hemisphere.
Dan will be remembered for his many passions, including his love of art, music, cooking, and travel, but mostly for his faith, generosity, and the love he shared with everyone he knew.
Private services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to 1st Presbyterian Church Cooks Night Out or Friday Morning Men’s Group, 1001 S. Rankin St., Edmond, OK 73034.
We remember many good times with Dan and Sissy when they lived in Edmond. Dan and Smokey enjoyed talking surgery and often operated together. Of course, there is the Cecil connection and we treasure those memories. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Sorry to hear about Dan’s passing.
Dan was such a sweet man, he always had kind words. I remember him walking in his yard admiring his beautiful flowers. You will be missed Dan …
Dr. Tubbs was always kind and always had a story to tell, many with a lesson to be learned if you really listened. Working on the ambulance, we usually talked with him when he was called in for emergency surgeries.
