1959-2016

Curtiss Pete Reining, 56, of Edmond, Ok returned to his heavenly home Wednesday October 5, after a 10 month battle with cancer. Pete was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 5, 1959 to Curtiss Preston and Ruth Jean Reining. Curtiss moved from his home of Chicago to Edmond in 1974 as he began high school, but always considered Chicago to be home. Pete, as he was called by friends and loved ones, met his future wife Jackie shortly after moving to Edmond and the two were married in 1979, staying together until Jackie’s untimely passing on October 2nd. Pete took a medical retirement after 28 years of working for the City of Edmond as an Engineer Inspector in April. He enjoyed the peace of simple pleasures. He loved fishing, working on cars, taking care of his lawn, spending time with his grandsons and watching his youngest grandson, Easton run around. To his numerous in-laws Pete was a mechanic, plumber, and electrician all in one, always available with a smile and asking nothing in return. Above all else Pete was loving. During tough times when he deserved to be angry; he was instead forgiving and comforting.

Because of his faith in Jesus Christ, his family and friends take comfort knowing that Pete has been reunited with Jackie and other loved ones who have passed in the presence of our Heavenly Father and His Son.  Pete is survived by his son Robert, daughter Rebecca Lynn “Becky” Maze, son-in-law David Maze, and two grandchildren Ashton and Easton Maze. Pete also leaves behind his brother Forrest Reining and his wife Diane of Edmond, Ok , sister Mary Sue Campbell and her husband Don of Chicago, Il, siblings in-laws Jan and Randy Baty, Jill and Randy Wheeler, Jayne and Ralph Willcox and Jason Matlock, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents Curtiss and Jean Reining, parents-in-laws J.C. and Nancy Matlock, , sister LuAnn Reining Moster, nephew Shane Wheeler, and niece Savannah Willcox.

Pete’s life will be celebrated on Monday October 10th at 10 am at Matthews Funeral Home located at 601 S Kelly in Edmond, Ok.  Family will be greeting guest from 2-4 on Sunday, October 9th at Matthews Funeral Home.
