Armenta Wyant Wight was born in Turkey, TX, October 11, 1929, to Claude Bailey and Minnie Alois (Wood) Wyant, first of 5 children. She passed from this life on Tuesday, October 20, 2015. Her parents moved the family to California during the dust bowl days, where they remained until returning to Oklahoma in 1944. At 15, she and the family moved to rural Blanchard and Chickasha area, where the children were enrolled in Middleberg School, near Blanchard. Armenta made lasting friendships wherever she went. She and all of her siblings went on to graduate from Middleberg High School. Armenta graduated from Central State College with a BA degree with a Teachers Certificate. Later, she went back and received her Master’s Degree in Education. She taught school in McAllen and Gustine, TX. She then went to Las Animas, CO, to teach and met her future husband, Joe Wight. They were married in 1954 and then traveled back to Oklahoma in 1958, to begin work and make their life in Edmond, OK. Armenta began teaching at Millwood, while Joe went to college, worked at a moving company and then went on to be a Letter Carrier for the Post Office until 1992. After Armenta retired from teaching, Armenta and Joe became very active with the senior bowling leagues where Armenta bowled and became Secretary for the league. She worked with the seniors until 2012, when she became ill.
Family meant the world to her. She loved her family, teaching the “kids” and she loved the bowling seniors.She was compassionate, devoted, kind, imaginative, and always with a fantastic sense of humor.Armenta was blessed with 2 children, Robert Lee Wight and Jo Ann Wight McCathern.Armenta was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joe, her parents, and 1 brother, Jerry Cecil Wyant.She is survived by son Robert, daughter Jo Ann and husband Tim, grandson Jarrod Conaway, granddaughter Claudia Wight, brothers George Bailey Wyant of OKC and Billy Ray Wyant and wife Shirley of Chickasha, sister Lois W. Weston Riggan, Piedmont, brother-in-law Ray Wight, sister-in-law Helen Ramsey, both of Las Animas, CO, and many nieces and nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends.
Memorial Services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, October 29th at Matthews Funeral Home.
