Charles Stanton Custer
1925 – 2024
Charles Stanton Custer was born August 12, 1925, in Los Angeles, California to Charles and Lillis (Radcliffe) Custer. He passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 98 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, George, a daughter-in-law, Nancy, and his wife, LaVerne. After eight years of waiting, he is with her again.
He is survived by three children and their families: Randy, of Paw Paw, Michigan; Jan (Charles) Wetsel of Edmond; and Craig (LaNita) of Marlow. He had five grandchildren: Jonathan Wetsel of Oklahoma City, Jared Wetsel of Wichita, Kansas, Ty (Emily) Custer of Edmond, Allie (Ripley) Custer of Midwest City, and Toby Custer of Marlow. He also had one great-grandchild, Hannah, whose pictures he would show to anyone who came to his room. In addition, he had many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Charles was a Christian for most of his life and loved the church. He served as a deacon, elder and Bible class teacher in churches of Christ for many years. He loved the book of John and committed most of it to memory. As his vision faded, he would listen to the Bible on audiotape for hours at a time. He looked forward to going to heaven and showed great faith throughout his life.
A residential designer by trade, Charles drew house plans for many beautiful homes throughout the state. He was also a Navy veteran and proudly served during World War II in the Pacific.
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers at Wellington Parke, Del City, for the loving care they gave to him during his final years. You have been a blessing in his life and in ours. Memorials can be made to the Oklahoma Library for the Blind, or to your charity of choice.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel, Edmond, O
