Charles Leslie Mugg

1942-2023
Charles Leslie Mugg of Edmond, Oklahoma passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023, at his home.
Charlie was born in Oklahoma City on February 16, 1942, and was the only child of Leslie Charles Mugg and Imogene Vallee Mugg. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sharon Hunt Mugg; daughter Staci Mugg Nash and husband Mark Nash; and daughter Christin Vallee Mugg and husband Chris Purget.
Charlie is also survived by grandchildren Ally Schreck and husband Charlie Schreck; Delaney Deck, and husband Caleb Deck; Michael Adkins, and Kate Adkins. Charlie was blessed with four great-grandchildren, Anderson Deck, Kit Deck, Graham Schreck, and Jovie Schreck.
He attended Harding High School and graduated in 1960. In high school, Charlie was named All District and All Conference Quarterback, played American Legion baseball, and played basketball.
Charlie attended the University of Oklahoma (“OU”), where he was an active member and Rush Chairman for Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He graduated in 1964 with a BBA in Finance & Marketing. While at OU, he met his wife, Sharon, and they were married in 1965.
Charlie was in Air Force ROTC while at OU, and upon graduation he and Sharon were stationed at Laurence G. Hanscom Field, in Bedford, Massachusetts. Charlie served in the Air Force, active duty from 1965 to 1969. Charlie and Sharon’s daughters, Staci and Christin, were born while they were stationed in Massachusetts.
Charlie had a wonderful career as a financial advisor with Merrill Lynch from 1969 until his retirement in 2011. He loved serving his clients and acting as a mentor to new advisors.
Charlie served the community in a variety of roles. He was a long-time Board Member for the Satellite Athletic Association, President and Board Member for the Jim Thorpe Association, and Board Member for the Oklahoma City Men’s Dinner Club.
Charlie’s love of sports continued throughout his life. He began playing golf while in the Air Force and loved to play on vacation and at Oak Tree Country Club, where he was a long-time member. In fact, he had two holes in one at Oak Tree. Charlie also enjoyed softball, both as a player and a coach. He was an avid OU Sooners and Boston Red Sox fan. He also had a life-long love of playing cards. After retirement, Charlie was able to play on a more regular basis and enjoyed organizing tournaments.
Charlie loved to make people laugh and to tell stories. He was the first person to invite a new employee to lunch, invite people without family close by to holiday dinners, and make everyone feel included. He adored animals. Charlie and Sharon rescued and loved many dogs and even let a cat adopt them.
A Celebration of Charlie’s Life will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 2:00 pm at First Christian Church of Edmond, 201 E. 2nd Street, Edmond, Oklahoma 73034.
