Charles “Chuck” Travis
1945-2024
A beautiful kind man passed away peacefully Saturday July 20th, 2024, 3:30pm, at St Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, surrounded by his family.
Known to most as Chuck or “B,” Chuck was a strong, quiet, kind, leader for both his family and community.
Growing up in the Crescent/OKC areas, Chuck enjoyed spending time with his big Travis family and attending CSU before serving the US Army during the Vietnam conflict. Further, Chuck spent time in Alaska and California before returning to Oklahoma where he met the love of his life, Nancy Henthorn Travis. They were married 56 years and spent their abundant life together in Tahlequah.
As a 28-year small business owner of Travis Appliance Sales & Service, Chuck served 8 years on the Tahlequah Airport Board and created many entrepreneurial businesses before selling his store to the Subway on Downing Street.
In his spare time, Chuck would enjoy meeting his friends for coffee at The Shack Cafe, hunting, fishing, and boating/canoeing with friends and family. He volunteered for the Special Olympics, worked on projects with his friends at St Brigid Catholic Church and served as a Boy Scout leader. Most of all however, he valued and enjoyed the time he spent with his land and with all of his family.
As he loved creating businesses, his hobbies and spirit were that of an entrepreneur. He collected unique and fun things at antique stores, and he had a lot of fun as a part owner of quarter horses for racing at various Oklahoma tracks.
Five years ago, Chuck and Nancy returned to live in the Oklahoma City area of their childhood to be closer to family. There, they joined the Tealridge community, learned rummikub and loved spending time with all of their new friends.
Unfortunately, in regard to the big Travis family of his youth, it brought him great sadness that he was the last remaining Travis child. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 2 sisters as well as 6 double cousins who were all raised together as siblings on neighboring farms in the Crescent area.
Surviving is his loving wife Nancy Henthorn Travis, his son Troy Travis with his wife Sheri, his daughter Katrina Gray and his daughter Robin Travis. 6 grandchildren: Sierra Lyhane and her husband Patrick, Malorie Conway and her husband Jason, Corinn Travis and her fiancée Lucas Hudson, Brittany Scott and her husband James, Bryant Gray and Calvin Gray. 10 great grandchildren: Donald, Theodore, Skyler, Devin, Alex, Chloe, Alexis, Madylnn, Peyton and Kaleb.
His warm, happy life was full of love. He lived his life leading with love, an open heart, service to his family & community, compassion, loyalty and understanding. He found his inner peace in God and nature, and was a kind, stable, loving support & mentor to all who knew him.
To us, he is already greatly missed, and our hearts are broken but we are grateful he was greeted by his loved ones who proceeded him with open arms and a very proud “well done.”
Services will be held at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, Oklahoma on Saturday July 27th at 10am with a Public Viewing scheduled for Friday July 26th, 5-7pm.

Prayers Robin. Hugs your way thinking of you
Our deepest sympathy to Nancy, Robin and Troy and their familes.
Thank you Sandy. Family was always such a big part of his life. Even those extended family members he may not have extensive contact with he carried them close to his heart. It is amazing all the times he would tell me news of some distant cousin that I had never met and probably will never met. It was very important to him to be a part of and love his greater family. I know he carried you in his heart just from watching the two of you at reunions and other gatherings. We will greatly miss him and society will miss him.
So sorry to hear about B. He was always welcoming and kind to me on our visits to Oklahoma many years ago. My thoughts and prayers for Nancy and the family.
My heart goes out to the entire Travis family for your loss. I never got to meet him personally, but through Robin I felt like I knew him well. Warm, kind and full of life. I know everyone will miss him deeply.
