C.L. Pullen
1923-2015
On the morning of June 18, 2015, Vern, “Big Daddy” Pullen, 91 years of age, went to be with our Lord. He was born in Foss, Oklahoma, and spent his childhood years in Elk City. At the age of 19 he served in the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover. At the age of 20, he joined the United States Army-Air Force at the onset of World War II. In the European Theatre, he was a Navigator on a B24 Liberator in the Eighth Air Force- 448th Bomb Group, helping the United States and our Allies defeat the Axis Powers. He was based in Seething, England, obtaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant. After the war, he returned to Elk City and opened a successful restaurant. In 1949, he went to work for Hughes Tool Company. In 1950, he moved to Seminole, Oklahoma, where he met and married his wife Anita. In 1963, he opened Pullen Motor Company, a Chrysler dealership in Chickasha, Oklahoma. After selling his dealership, he spent the rest of his career in the Insurance and Oil Field Sales areas. He is preceded in death by his beloved Mother, Father, and Brother. He is survived by his wife, Anita, his sons, Mark and Bruce, and his sister Jean Lucas and grandchildren Trevor and Tanner. Family requests, that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your church or Crossings Community Church. Services are under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond. Public Viewing will be on Saturday, June 20, from 3-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be on Sunday, June 21, at 1:00 p.m. in the Matthews Funeral Home Chapel.
I wish the Pullen family my sincere best wishes about your loss of Vern. He always was most pleasant and encouraging to me and also a happy man and I appreciated that. I was in the same class at ECHS with him. During my wife’s , Rogene, long illness he regularly called to wish good tidings.
