Carol Blair Bettes

1929-2024
Carol Blair (Ratliffe) Bettes of Edmond, OK passed away January 31, 2024, at the age of 94. Carol was born the youngest of five children on December 23, 1929 to George Thomas and Clara Louise (Blair) Ratliffe in San Antonio, TX. She attended schools in Texas, Oklahoma and graduated high school in Minden, Louisiana. After attending two years at Texas State College for Women and two years at Oklahoma State A&M College (OSU), Carol graduated in 1950 with a bachelor’s degree in education. Carol taught school one year at Lamont, OK before marrying her college sweetheart, Dale Bettes, in 1951.
Carol and Dale were baptized in Christ on the same day in 1954 and were faithful servants at each congregation where they lived until their death. They lived in Wilburton, OK for 55 years before moving to Edmond in 2018.
Carol’s love for children moved her to work with them in many ways; classroom teaching at Lamont, Orlando, OK, Bowers and Wilburton, Head Start Assistant Director for Latimer Co., and Extension Home Economist for Latimer Co. She also enjoyed doing volunteer work including Sunday School teacher, church camps, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, 4-H, Sojourners and Red Cross.
Carol enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening both flowers and vegetables, camping and fishing.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, all four siblings, her husband of 67 years, daughter Bonita (Helt) Haywood and grandson Charles Helt. She is survived by her daughter Janet (Manning) Reynolds of Flower Mound, TX; son Dale Jr. and Connie Bettes of Edmond; daughter Susan (Bailey) Bettes of Tulsa, nine grandchildren; Chad and Adonna Manning, Susan (Manning) and Tim Roush, Heather (Helt) and Patrick Keeran, Amber (Helt) Cragg, Kayla (Haywood) and Scott Bradley, DJ and Jennifer Bettes, James and Ashley Bettes, Adam Bailey, Frank Bailey and 14 great-grandchildren: Kenny and Maddie Manning, Billy Manning, Joey Manning, Whitney (Cragg) and Garrett Still, Chandler Helt, Jocelyn Helt, Brielle Bradley, Alexandor Bradley, Natalie Bettes, Katelyn Bettes, Aaron Bettes, Logan Bettes, Olive Bettes and Levi Bettes.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Edmond Church of Christ.
