Carl (85) was affectionately known as Gene and Sonny.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who returned to God on July 31, 2024.

He was born in Eldorado, Ohio.  Growing up, he loved spending time with his grandparents, Earl and Elizabeth Petry, on their farm.  Upon graduating from Monroe high school, he enlisted in the Navy.  When his service ended, he enjoyed a long career with the FAA where his love of planes was evident, even obtaining his commercially rated pilot license. The FAA provided him the opportunity to live in many different states, finally settling in his favorite state of Alaska where he was second in command of the Alaskan Region, including serving as the airspace liaison between the U.S.A and Russia.  After retiring from the FAA, he traveled the U.S and loved wintering in Hawaii, before he settled down in Guthrie, Oklahoma and began devoting his time working as a pastor.  He was involved in Sunday school, Living Faith Ministries, pastoral care, bible study and ministering at retirement communities.  Throughout his life, his hobby always involved horses.  He enjoyed trail rides, cattle drives and served as a mounted deputy sheriff.

He was a loving husband to Patricia and father to 3 children and 4 stepchildren who all dearly miss him.

Carl (Gene) is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia Cowgill of Guthrie, OK; son:  Ronald Cowgill and wife Diane of Glenview, IL; daughters: Janet Cowgill of Canton, OH and Kimerly Cowgill and husband Jeffrey Knauf of Louisville, OH; stepdaughters:  Annabelle Daniels of Sparks, NV and Athena Laprade and husband Larry of Elko, NV; stepsons:  Timothy Daniels and wife Jessica of Mission Viejo, CA and Seth Daniels and wife Jeanette of Sparks, NV; grandchildren: Corey Cowgill,  Paige Cowgill and Karson Knauf, Carl Wolbert and wife Stephanie, John Arquilla and Steve Miller; step grandchildren: Claire Hinchman, Troy Hinchman, Analisa Repta and husband Thomas, Sky Girard, Emily Morris and husband Brandon, Braeden Daniels, Brooke Groff and husband Jacob, Zakk Hendrix, Wyatt Hendrix and Erica Daniels; great grandchildren; John Arquilla and Andrea Arquilla; step great grandchildren: Olivia Morris and Mason Groff, sister: Lois Kerns and husband Larry.

We first met Gene at Crossing. Community Church many years ago. Always had a smile and hugs for us. We so appreciated the
    Prayers he prayed over us.
He did our granddaughter Kayla Greer of North Carolina, christening. We were so happy he would do this for us. It was a beautiful service.
Gene’s love for Jesus was so beautiful. A true man of God. He would have done anything for anyone.
How blessed we were to know him.
He really lived a remarkable life.
