Calvin Don Morris

1924-2013

Calvin Don Morris died peacefully after a brief illness on December 7, 2013. He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Madeline Jeanette Martin Morris, his brother Carol William Morris, his sister, Verna Opel Morris Buchanan and nephew, Martin J. Blackshaw. Surviving him are two daughters, Susan Newman and Donna Wight married to Preston; four granddaughters, Caroline Young, Kate Chittenden, Jeanette Stevenson, and Allison Williams. What made him smile the most are great grandchildren Hope Young, Eli Young, and Emma Kate Stevenson.

Also numbered on his team are nieces Suzanne McKenna, Maria Bowie, Sarah Thompson, Stacy Kaiser and nephew Johan Morris; also, sister-in-laws Wilma Blackshaw and husband Lister, and Ann-Mari Romer Morris.

Born in Frost, Texas, to Othel Carol and Mattie Madonna Morris, he was raised in the IOOF Home for Widows and Orphans in Corsicana Texas, which he remembered with great fondness. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served until 1946.

After settling in Dallas, Texas, he met and married our mother, March 1, 1947 and began his career in the motion picture industry. He traveled to theaters primarily in south Texas, distributing motion pictures for RKO, United Artists, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

Dad’s passions included the pursuit of the perfect golf game and the Dallas Cowboys.

He has resided at Tealridge Retirement Community for the last 7 years.

A private burial will take place at Hopewell Cemetery, Wellsville, Missouri.
