Kent Braden

1931-2015

Dr. Kent Braden, 84 passed away July 19, 2015. He was born on April 16, 1931 to Sam and Thelma Braden in Lubbock, TX. He grew up in Sulfur, OK helping his family at their dairy. He attended high school in Elk City and was recruited by the University of Oklahoma where he was a part of the 1950 National Championship football team. He was injured early in his career and went on to become the manager of the football team.

After graduating from OU, he attended medical school also at OU where he met his wife, Barbara and partner of 59 years as medical school students. He became a neurosurgeon and practiced medicine his entire career in Oklahoma City. He was a president of the Oklahoma Medical Association and on numerous committees and boards during his career and retirement. He was a devoted husband, father to Jenny Braden, Mark and Desirea Braden, and Kim and Jon McLanahan along with 7 grandchildren. He loved Colorado, camping, reading, hunting, carpentry and his many friends.

Kent is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara. He is survived by his children, Jenny Braden, Mark and his wife Desirea Braden, and Kim and her husband Jon McLanahan, all of Edmond. His seven granchildren, Cole McLanahan, Wade McLanahan, Brian McLanahan, Trent Braden, Paige McLanahan, Natalie Braden and Annalyse Braden of Oklahoma City and Edmond survived Kent. He is also survived by his “little sister” Kaye Gosdin of Edmond, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
