Bill “Jakie” Hanna

Jakie Carl ( Bill ) Hanna Hanna, Bill

1944-2017

Jakie Carl ( Bill ) Hanna was born to Robert and June Hanna on January 30, 1944 in Duncan, Oklahoma. He passed away January 14, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 72, just over two weeks before his 73rd birthday.

He married Patricia Gail Cudd, September 1, 1968. To this union, two wonderful boys were born, Chad Robert and Brad Lesley. Bill grew up in Comanche, Oklahoma with his older brother, Mark. From the early years, it was clear that both boys along with their father had a special bond and love for cars. That love would result in restoring old cars and although it was never proven, there may have been some street car racing on the outskirts of town at times. While in college at Oklahoma Christian in Oklahoma City, he met Pat while on a trip back home to Comanche, Bill’s 1964 Chevelle caught her eye but he saw so much more and a lifetime partner in her. They married in Beaver, OK and after graduation they moved to Tulsa where they both worked for Acme Brick.

Bill was in the National Guard for a few years. After moving to Lawton, OK, Bill then began to work for the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission. He touched a lot of lives personally and professionally throughout those years with his work ethic and compassionate heart to always bring out the best in people. While in Lawton, Pat began her career as a school teacher. After moving to Edmond, in 1975, both Bill and Pat knew this is where they wanted to raise their family. Bill’s pastimes included playing golf, his continued love for cars, watching OU and Oklahoma Christian Basketball while serving with the booster club, and being with his family. Bill and Pat were members of Memorial Road Church of Christ and were involved in many community projects throughout the years.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and June Hanna, his brother, Mark, and his mother-in-law, Maxine Cudd. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Pat, of Edmond, two sons, Chad and his wife Kim of Edmond, and Brad and his wife Lindsay of Edmond and their children, Hunter and Hallie, his sister-in-law, Susan Hanna and sons Rick, Sean, Matthew and Alex and their families, and a close-knit family of cousins.

Open visitation will be held at Matthews Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 18th, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Services will be Thursday, January 19th, 2017 at Memorial Road Church of Christ at 10 a.m.

Pat and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Due to health reasons I am unable to be with you at this time. My prayers are with you and your family. Love you very much.

  4. Patricia, so sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. I moved to Lawton in 1973 and didn’t know anyone. Bill took me in like a long lost brother. He insisted I move out of the motel and stay with you and him. You and Bill made me feel right at home. I was never able to adequately express my gratitude. Bill’s friendship was always special. I only regret that I failed to stay closer in touch the last few years. My loss. My family is praying for you and yours.

Pat my prayers are with you, Chad and Brad. Worked with Bill at the Edmond Employment Office and thought a lot of him. He will be missed.

Pat and Family, our thoughts and prayers to your families at the loss of Bill. Quite surprised to read of his passing. Bill was an important part of my career with OESC. A lot of good times, fond memories. One of my favorites stories was the time when he held a District Employee meeting in Roman Nose Lodge, someone short sheeted his bed. He was a people person for sure.

    Take Care. AK Armstrong
