Bettye J. (Walraven) Thompson was born on March 3, 1931 in Oklahoma City to Mont Ray and Marcella Walraven, and went to be with our Lord on August 6, 2016 in the presence and comfort of her family. Bettye attended Central High School, worked for local businesses, and then for the T G & Y company, in their accounting department, until they closed. Bettye moved to Lake Eufaula, with her husband Vincent Eugene Thompson, where she lived until his untimely death in December 1978. Bettye returned to Oklahoma City, purchased a home at the Tara condominium complex on NW 59th street, worked for the Fleming Company until she retired in 2000, and later moved to the Tealridge retirement center.
Bettye enjoyed ceramics, cooking, decorating her home, and her pet cats, but absolutely “lived” to be around her family, especially for holidays…she was a fanatic about celebrating birthdays!
Bettye was preceded in death by her mother, father and beloved older brother Billy Ray Walraven and is survived by her daughters (spouse): Debbie (Mark) Binion and Bobbi (Mike) Wyrick Tucker Metcalf; grandchildren (spouse); Joshua Wyrick, Keith (Katie) Binion, Shelley (Ed) Binion Sarbey, twins Craig Tucker/Christina (Robert) Tucker Gillespie and Zac (Heather) Metcalf; great grandchildren: Madelyn and Sarah Wyrick, Alexandra and Lilian Gillespie, Luxy and Adria Binion, Jensen and Nola Metcalf.
Viewing will be from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday August 10 at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S Kelly, Edmond, OK. Graveside service will be at 10 am, Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 500 SW 104th St. OKC.
