Betty Jane (Falt) McIntosh
July 1, 1925– July 5, 2024
Betty Jane McIntosh was a long-time member of Central Christian Church in Walla Walla, WA and later Southern Hills Christian Church in Edmond, OK. She was baptized when she was 12 and faithfully served. Born in Los Angeles on July 1, 1925, she lived a full life until just past her 99th birthday. Younger years were spent in Seattle until Betty and Forrest McIntosh married on March 17, 1944, while he was on leave from the Army Air Corps. She followed him to his flight bases where Marilyn was born to the couple as he served in the Western Flying Training Command as a multi-engine pilot until his discharge at the end of World War II. They returned to Walla Walla and put down deep roots in the community and church.
Betty was employed by J.C. Penney Co., Seattle First National Bank, and in Walla Walla at Harold Electric. She retired from the Walla Walla Community College Bookstore in 1982. She served many capacities at her church including president of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. Her extensive volunteer work varied from Lunch Bunch, Reading helper at Blue Ridge Elementary, Camp Fire, PTA president at Washington Grade School, Voting Poles and 32-year support to Forrest’s charter membership in the 9406th Air Force Reserve Squadron retiring Lieutenant Colonel.
The inseparable love of her life for 65 years was Forrest who passed away in 2009 after 4.5 years at Eagle Springs Memory Care. She was known for making friends everywhere she went. It was hard leaving all her dear friends in Walla Walla and moving in Oct 2017 from her family farm on Biagi Lane, but she thrived 7 years living close to her daughter’s family in Edmond, OK. She quickly applied her gift of making lasting friendships and was invigorated by all the activities at Southern Hills Christian Church, thriving participant with residents and staff at Lyndale Edmond Senior Living and loving caregivers at Parc Place Rehab Center staff.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Walters and John of Edmond, Forrest (Forrie) Jr. and Molly of Anacortes, Roger McIntosh of Olympia, Grand-children/partners, Eric Plumlee-Sema, Brooke Plumlee, Dr. Jennifer McIntosh-Dustin Fitzpatrick, Brandon McIntosh-Rita Meher, Jaimee Hatch, Lyle Walters-Lauren, Zachary Walters-Silvana. Betty was a dear friend and I loved her. She was fun to be around and always had a smile and kind words. I’m so happy she included me in most things even some family events. She was proud of her family and I know we will all miss her so much Thank you Betty for everything we did, all the lunches, conversations, even our time at Regency at the Park. I’m so glad you were my friend
Grandma was such a spark of light, and was a friend to everyone, including strangers! I am so fortunate to have been able to know and love her! I am also very grateful for having her move to OK and live near me for 7 years. In that time, we went to baseball games, theater shows, arts festivals, painting events, estate sales, music events, dinners, movies, church, parks, vacations, and I got to have holidays and birthdays together, and play a lot of card games, puzzles and Scrabble! In the last handful of months she told me she wanted to “go home.” I’m happy for her to be able to do that peacefully and with mental clarity, but I’m going to miss her so very much!!! Love you always Grandma!
Roger, Marilyn, Forrie, and family – Sincere condolences on the passing of your mother. I met Betty and worked with her for a few years in the WWCC bookstore while I was a student there, and we became friends. I feel so very fortunate to have known her and to have kept in touch with her since then, even after she moved to Edmond, exchanging annual Christmas letters and cards, and more. Betty was one of the most caring and kindest individuals I have ever known. I will definitely miss her and her wonderful letters, in which she always shared her latest adventures (including holiday crafts and painting projects), as well as about times spent with her family, and how much you all meant to her. May your many great memories and the love of family and friends comfort you at this time.
