Betty Kay Wright
1934 – 2023
Betty Kay Wright, 89, passed away peacefully of an extended illness on August 4, 2023, in Edmond, Oklahoma. Betty was born on June 23, 1934, in Sayre, Oklahoma where she grew up and attended Bulow Public Schools. Betty was the daughter of Charles and Nellie White. Betty married Lester Wright in 1955 and they were happily married for fifty-eight years. Betty and Lester lived in Choctaw, Oklahoma and raised two loving children, Donna and Russell. Betty was a housewife and an active member of the Edmond Church of Christ.
Betty adored her two grandsons and two great granddaughters. Her two great granddaughters affectionately called her “MawMaw”. Betty treasured her time with her nieces and nephews. She loved all things “turquoise”. She was an avid conversationalist with family and friends, as well as waiters, nurses, and Wal-Mart cashiers. Betty enjoyed working with flowers, crafting, painting, crocheting, sewing, antiquing and garage sales. She had a passion for traveling and lived in many states from coast to coast. She was devoted to her church and had a generous heart, especially for children in need.
Betty is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Wendell Simmons of Edmond, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law Kaye LaPointe of Nevada; grandsons Jerrod Simmons of Piedmont, Oklahoma and Marcus Wright of Nevada; two great grand-daughters Lyla and Kora Simmons; many adoring nieces and nephews; and two sisters, Elwanda Mandrell of Chickasha, Oklahoma and Lois Lee of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband Lester Wright, her son Russell Wright, and her sister Irene Clark.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 18, 2023, at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hope Center in Edmond, Oklahoma.
