Betty J Cypher
1928 – 2015
Betty Jean Jackson Cypher passed away on April 12, 2015. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly Edmond, OK. A remembrance gathering will follow at the home of Cathy and Jerry Wise. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Richard D. (Dick) Cypher; two daughters, Julie Cypher Hale and Melanie Cypher; son-in-law James Patterson; three grandchildren Bailey, Beckett and Glynnis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was born in Carthage, Missouri on Oct. 26, 1928. She and her family moved to Newhall, CA and then eventually settled in Bell Gardens, CA. After working for Chrysler (and owning her own red Chrysler convertible), she met and married the love of her life, Dick Cypher. She and Dick have lived in Edmond for the last 30 years. She played tennis for the last 45 years, most recently playing doubles at Oak Tree Country Club. She was an extremely accomplished seamstress, constantly sewing for her family, dresses for the “You Are Special” charity, and baby blankets for friends. She and Dick travelled the world together, visiting Italy (twice!), Alaska, Russia, England, Poland, and Ireland, to name just a few of the places. She loved her cats, most recently their Pixie-bob, Sasha. She also was a member of the DAR, Samuel King Chapter. If there is one lasting legacy Betty Cypher left us, it is this: Live your life honestly and fully. Do not leave anything “on the table” left undone. She certainly did not! In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to your favorite charity, or Mercy Hospice (a non-profit hospice of Mercy Hospital Oklahoma), Free to Live Animal Sanctuary (Edmond), or the American Cancer Society.
My deepest Sympathy to you Dick, and your entire family. Betty was a wonderful woman and always made everyone feel special. Early on in my parenting, she gave me such strength and a can do attitude. Always fun, always honest and most of all loving and caring.
