Austin Wyatt Abbitt

April 16, 2002 – October 1, 2013

abbitt picAustin Wyatt Abbitt, age 11, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2013. After an 8 year battle with brain cancer, he passed away surrounded by his family. Even though Austin faced great challenges towards the end of his life, he showed tremendous courage, unending faith in the Lord, and displayed his typical loving spirit – one that will always be remembered by those who love him.  He was born in Edmond, OK and attended John Ross Elementary in Edmond. He loved playing soccer and basketball. He also enjoyed cheering for the Oklahoma City Thunder. His football favorites were a bit harder to define as West Virginia, Texas A&M, OU and OSU competed for his attention. Although it was Ivan, the labradoodle, that really captured Austin’s heart. He was not just a furry, four-legged friend but a true companion. He too, will miss his two-legged friend.  Austin is survived by his parents Wyatt and Shilpa Abbitt of Edmond, big brother Sean, and grandparents and several aunts and uncles of Texas and West Virginia. He is also survived by numerous cousins living in North Carolina, New York, Georgia, California, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Texas, and India.  He was a regular attendee of LifeChurch in Edmond.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, at LifeChurch, Edmond Campus. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Austin’s name to the American Cancer Society, 6525 N Meridian Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73116 or Hospice of Oklahoma County, c/o Integris Foundation, Suite 1600, Oklahoma City, OK 73112.

  2. I actually went to John Ross a long time ago. And Austin is missed. I wish the family well.

  3. I was never was a close friend to Austin, but I met him in second grade. In Mrs Colton’s class at John Ross elementary. I do remember his energy and playing soccer. I remember his energy and his intelligence. I also had him in my class in third grade. We were in Ms. javorski’s class and she was a strict teacher, I realize it was for a reason. I remember we were in a book club and we read a book named Hoot. We did a project together about the book. I also remember when we had a book fair and I didn’t have any money to buy anything, he gave me a super long eraser that flopped back and forth that he bought. I’m not going to claim he was my best friend. I believe Emily Smith was his best friend. I do remember how kind and energetic he was. I was In the 6th grade when I heard he had passed. His kindness will always be remembered from me. Caleb Goggans. I am 24 now and still think about him. This is to his parents and his family what an amazing boy he was God bless!- Caleb Goggans
