1941-2023

Arthur Wayne “Art” Terry, 82, was welcomed into his Savior’s arms on Feb.12, 2023 after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s.  His faith in his God, and his love for his family, strengthened and sustained Art throughout his life – up to the very end.

Art was born to the late Sidney Wayne and Eleanor Christine Terry in Edmond, OK on Feb.7, 1941.  His family stayed in Edmond where Art grew up and attended high school, lettering in wrestling and football.  He went on to attend Oklahoma University on a wresting scholarship and remained an avid OU fan to the end.  Art loved the outdoors and playing sports – but particularly enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. 

Art married Darla Jean Gorbet, on Aug.1, 1972 in Oklahoma City.  Together, they raised a blended family of four children and passed on a family heritage of faith in God, devotion to family, love of country, working hard, and helping others.  Some of the fondest family memories were times spent camping and listening to Art tell scary stories around the campfire.  

Art was a leader – in his church and in the marketplace.  He always led with wisdom and enthusiasm, godly character, and a servant’s heart.  Art’s smile, sense of humor, charitable spirit and ability to laugh at himself – endeared him to all who came in contact with him.

Art was preceded in death by his parents and brother Sidney Charles Terry, and is survived by his wife, Darla; his daughters Christy Adel and Dee Delgado;  his sons Jeff Cook and Greg Cook, and his sister Merna Burns.  He is also survived by his eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren – all of whom will greatly miss the hugs and humor from their Grandad.

A memorial service will be held for Art on Feb.21 at 2pm at Matthews Funeral Home in  Edmond, OK.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate Art’s life.
