On January 16, 2018 Arne Edgar Loven passed away at Bradford Village in Edmond, Oklahoma. He was 88. Arne is preceded in death by his wife Muriel Loven, parents Alfred and Henny Loven and siblings Ethel Erickson, Arnold Loven, Harold Loven, Marvin Loven, Wesley Loven, Bryan Loven, Raymond Loven, Jean Schlect, Einar Loven, and Clair Loven.
Arne was born to parents Alfred and Henny Loven November 25, 1929 in LaMoure County, North Dakota where he grew up and attended school. He married Muriel Ann Lee on a very snowy day, January 29, 1956. Arne & Muriel met at church and as Arne explained “it was always easy to find her because she was always at church”.
They raised their three children on the foundation of love and principles of faith. The legacy Arne leaves as the patriarch of his family is easy to see by their family’s faith. Arne and Muriel raised their family in Grand Forks, North Dakota; Ames, Iowa; and moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1972.
After graduating High School in 1947, Arne worked as a farmer on Elmo Malm’s 500-acre farm until 1951, where he milked cows by hand, and raised wheat, oats and hay. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged, then graduated from The University of North Dakota in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration. Arne worked for the City of Grand Forks, North Dakota; then moved the family to Ames Iowa and served as Finance Director for the City of Ames, Iowa for 5 years. Next, they moved to Oklahoma City where he served as Finance Director for the City of Oklahoma City for 5 years. Arne and Muriel managed retirement homes in multiple states over the years and served as volunteers for 10 years at Tech Serv in Greenbriar, Arkansas; He and Muriel attended Crossings Community Church.
Arne loved to spend time in prayer, reading and studying God’s word. He also wrote several poems to family and friends. In his later years he wrote compilations of encouragement including scriptures and stories, sending them to family and friends monthly.
Arne is survived by his children all of Edmond, Oklahoma: Jacquelyn & Chuck Adams, Tim & Tesha Loven and Rick & Kristi Loven Grandchildren: Andrew Walker, Daniel & Lacy Walker, Kimberly & Clint Vincent, Lauren & Jed Pitzer, Lars Loven
Clayton Daniel, Kelsey Daniel, Kelsey Loven, Marissa & John Pickens III, Ricky Loven and Rylie Love Great Grandchildren: Ethan and Adriuana Walker, Kelton, Keegan, Kelby, and Kameron Hagerman, Addyson and Xander Vincent, Charlie Pitzer (and baby brother Henry on the way) and John Pickens IV Also survived by: Sister Marjorie Trask of Santa Rosa, Florida and many nieces, nephews and extended family
A celebration of Arne’s life will be held Monday 2:00 p.m. at The Chapel at Crossings Community Church, Lance Ward will officiate. Services have been entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home. The family has requested memorial contributions be made: Tech Serv Greenbriar, AR -Mel & Corliss Erickson (Indian Missions North Dakota)
