Anna Lue Standridge Denny
1931-2018
Anna Lue Standridge Denny joined her beloved Bob, Colleen and many other family members and friends in Heaven on March 28, 2018. She struggled these past 10 months without the companionship of her husband. Her heart was broken after his death and she never fully recovered.
She was a resident of Edmond, OK. She was 86 years old.
Anna was born November 17, 1931 to Garland and Lula Myrtle (Casey) Standridge in Eufaula, OK.
She shared her early life with her parents and sisters in Eufaula and graduated from Eufaula High School in 1949. She had a very happy childhood surrounded with love from an extended family. She was active in her church, First Baptist Eufaula, and gave her life to Jesus at age 8. She excelled with many activities but mostly piano and sewing and homemaking skills. She loved her family and grandparents. She loved to share stories of staying with her grandmother Casey in Spiro, OK and playing with her cousins. She was driving by age 11. She vividly remembers driving herself to church on Sunday evenings by age 12, and helping her mother drive to Spiro for visits. She loved learning and enjoyed reading and studying. She also was a great letter writer. This skill she used frequently up to her last few months of life. She loved to send cards and share her life in words. She also enjoyed cooking to share with others.
She was preceded in death by Bob- her husband of 69 years and daughter Colleen, her parents, her sister Bettie Carol and her baby brother Garland Wayne.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Fox of Yukon, OK, her daughter Charlene Strong and husband Cliff of Edmond, OK, her son Alan Denny of Palm Springs, CA, her son-in-love Keith Seaman of Woodbridge, VA, and her precious granddaughters, Christen Seaman of Louisville, KY, Casey Strong (Morgan) of Tacoma, WA and Carey Munoz (Jason) of OKC. She also shard her life with her grandson in love – Sean Strong of Lebanon, MO and his sweet family.
She shared her birthday with her loving sister, Garlena Vickers and family of Heavener, OK. She also has many other cousins and family-in-love from Bob’s family, and many friends from her life touches in her churches and activities.
She never met a stranger. She loved life and loved to share it and hear about other’s lives. She volunteered and assisted whenever and wherever there was opportunity. She rarely talked about herself, but she did love to share others’ stories. Anna always had a smile for each person she made eye contact with, this was her way of letting them know she valued them.
She met the love of her life while working in her high school office at age 14!! She was quite the flirt according to Bob. They went on their first date to hunt rattlesnakes in eastern Oklahoma one Sunday afternoon. She was 14!! At least it was a double date with another couple.
Anna and Bob decided to get married and drove to Van Buren, AR on May 1, 1948. They took several friends with them including dad’s younger sister Florence. Dad was stationed by the Air Force to Greenland for 16 months allowing Anna to stay home and graduate high school.
Mom and dad moved frequently in their early marriage. Mom always set up a home full of love. They were blessed with four children from April 1950 to October 1955. Mom stayed busy at home while dad worked and finished his college degree. He surrendered to God’s call to ministry in 1951. So did mom. She always said she knew God had a mission for her and it was revealed to be a “Minister’s Wife and Partner” with him. It was not easy many times, but she always felt blessed and needed. She loved standing beside her husband in his many duties. She lived and worked her testimony daily. That was her call in her marriage and partnership.
Anna’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond with interment at 2:00 p.m. at Hanna Cemetery in Hanna, OK. There will be a viewing for family and friends on Friday evening March 30th from 6-8 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to her favored organization: Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children, 16301 South Western Ave, OKC, OK 73170.
Special thanks for many hours of tender loving care for the staff at Edmond Brookdale Danforth Senior Living and Centennial Hospice. They so graciously cared for her and loved her.
