Anima Baroi

1954 – 2023

Anima Baroi, 68, passed away on January 23, 2023, at Saint Anthony Hospital after a short illness. Family and friends were faithfully by her side during recent days.  Anima was born November 12, 1954, in Comilla, Bangladesh. She is the daughter of Rev. Radhaballav and Jogomaya (Das) Podder.  She graduated from high school in Comilla and was selected to study Marine Biology at the University of Chittagong where she received her Master’s Degree in Science.  She was a lifelong track and field athlete and received hundreds of metals and trophies throughout school and college.  She married Dr. Thomas Baroi in Dhaka on November 3, 1977.  They celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary together last year. They were richly blessed with two sons, Julius Sumon and Dr. Romel Saikat Baroi.  She worked as a public relations officer in Dhaka for CORR The Jute Works for 11 years.  The family moved from Dhaka, Bangladesh to Edmond, Ok in December 1994.  She worked for Oklahoma Head Start as a teacher for 21 years retiring in November 2021.

In addition to her professional career, she was thankful for the opportunity to care for her family and participate in the community.  She enjoyed the serenity of outdoor gardening, planning and organizing gatherings and social events for the Bengali community.  Her love of traveling took her to many different countries around the world.  She enjoyed visiting family and always being on the go.  She loved being constantly surrounded by people and her bright personality made it easy for her to meet new people.  She had a way of always making everyone feel welcome in the family home.  When asked she would say she had accomplished everything she wanted in life.  She will be dearly missed.

Anima is survived by her husband, Thomas; son, Julius and wife Rojoni (Costa) of Edmond, OK; grandchildren: Joseph and Ezekiel; son, Dr. Romel Baroi and wife Dianna (Glaze) of Edmond, OK; sister, Shova Rozario of Folkstone, England; brother Nipen Podder of Maryland; brothers Vupen, Jogen, and David Podder of Dhaka, Bangladesh; and brothers and sister Shotten, Dilip, and Babla Podder of Comilla, Bangladesh.
