Ammah Susan Pettit
1932-2016
Ammah Susan Carpenter Pettit was born November 1, 1932 in Maud, OK to Ammah (Thompson) and Clay Carpenter. She died May 1, 2016. Susan was the youngest of four childrenAfter graduating from high school in Garber, OK, she attended Central State (UCO), and continued her education at the University of Oklahoma where she received her degree in education.
After retiring, Susan moved to Colorado, where she enjoyed her church and community. Her grandchildren spent many summers learning about nature and taking road trips with her. She was adventuress and loved nature and all it had to offer. She never tired of learning and teaching. Upon returning to her native Oklahoma, Susan was both active in her grandchildren’s lives and the community. She belonged to many organizations, too many to name. She loved her God, country and family.
Always looking for a new adventure she formed the Travelers group. She would spend hours researching local areas in Oklahoma, that both offered cultural as well as native themes. She had many wonderful stories to share and was in the process of planning many more adventures at the time of her death.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Donald Carpenter and sister Margie Alton She is survived by her sister Mary Lou Simmering, her three children Trish Luza and husband Tom, Cathy Bird and Martha Connelly and husband Tom and her beloved dog Jack Pettit. Grandchildren Mollie Brue and husband Daniel, Cody Connelly and wife Sarah, Trevor Connelly and wife Crystal, Erin Darcy and husband Steven, Jay Michael Kuykendall, Christine Bird, and Emily Bird. Great-grandchildren: Natalie Brue, Lilly and Parker Connelly, Brandon, Wyatt and Liam Connelly, Claire and Jack Darcy.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2016 at St.Mary’s Episcopal Church, Edmond, OK.
