Mary Allene Bayless

bayless pic for papersAllene (Bernstein) Bayless was born September 21, 1927, in Hansford County Texas to Arthur and Myrtle (Brandvik) Bernstein at their homesteaded farm in the Texas Panhandle near Gruver, TX. Allene passed away in Edmond, Ok on October 29, 2017.

Allene attended Gruver Schools until moving to Tucson, Arizona where she graduated from high school and then attended the University of Arizona. She married Theodore William Bayless from Gruver, Texas in 1944. Allene and Theodore farmed and ranched in Hansford County for over 50 years.

Allene loved living on the family farm where she was born, and she loved her hometown community of Gruver. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Vera (Bernstein) Stearns; and her husband, Theodore.

Allene moved to Oklahoma City in 2004, where she made many new friends while living at Epworth Villa. She will be missed by her friends and especially missed by her family.

Allene is survived by her daughter; Judy Porter and her husband Ed of Edmond, OK; son Jerry Bayless and his wife Rhonda of Comfort, TX; nephew Mark Stearns and his wife Melissa of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren Heather Archer of San Diego, CA; Will Porter of Oklahoma City, OK; Justin Porter of Oklahoma City, OK; Matthew Bayless of New Braunfels, TX; Jeff Bayless of Austin, TX; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held November 22, at the Gruver United Methodist Church.

    I appreciated knowing Allene while she lived here at Epworth Villa. She was a lovely woman. I loved eating with her and hearing about her life in Gruver. She will be missed. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy to her family.
