Alan Arnold Soderstrom
1946 – 2021
On Saturday, May 29th, 2021, Alan Soderstrom of Edmond Oklahoma, loving husband and father of two, passed away at the age of 74.
Alan was born in Pawhuska, Oklahoma on November 27th, 1946 to Don and Maxine Soderstrom. He was a 1965 graduate of Pawhuska high School. He joined the Marine Corps in March of 1966 and requested a tour of active duty in Vietnam. While serving in Vietnam he earned the Navy Commendation with Combat V for heroism. Upon return from his tour he married his high school sweetheart, Marie Catherine Dawson, on April 5, 1965. They had two children, daughter Cristin and son Clint. Alan received his degree in education from UCO. He taught at and helped found Heritage Hall’s football program and later spent 38 years working in lumber sales.
Alan was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoyed photography and wood working, and he loved Edmond Bulldog football and basketball games which he attended regularly for over forty years. He loved music and singing. Alan was also a passionate patriot, and committed to supporting veterans. He regularly participated in motorcycle rides on his beloved Harley to support veterans and other charities.
His joy in supporting his country and community were only matched by his love for family. Alan was preceded in death by his father and mother Donald Leo Soderstrom and Martha Maxine Soderstrom. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Marie, his daughter Cristin Clements, of Edmond, Oklahoma, her three children Grayson, Gavin, and Dawson, along with his son-in-law Ben Clements, his son Clint Soderstrom, of Sewickley, Pennsylvania, his four children Bella, Max, Hattie, and Zeke, along with his daughter-in-law Chesney Soderstrom, his two sisters and their husbands, Jim and DeeDee Burton and Jesse and Mary Don Storts, his Cousin Patricia Soderstrom and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Alan was a man of few words, but when he spoke, others listened and respected him. His commitment to treating others the way he wanted to be treated made him the heart of his family, and he will be sorely missed.
Grave side services will be held at the Pawhuska City Cemetery in Pawhuska Oklahoma on Sunday June 6th at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Dale K Graham Veterans Foundation in memory of Alan at https://dalekgrahamveteransfoundation.org/serving-veterans/.
