Ingrid E. Williams

Ingrid E. Williams

1971 – 2016

Ingrid Williams Obit PicIngrid Elaine Williams, beloved wife of Monty Williams, devoted mother to Lael, Faith, Janna, Elijah & Micah, and cherished friend to all, went home to be with the Lord in Edmond, Oklahoma on February 10, 2016 at the age of 44. A Celebration of Life service will be held on February 18 at 2 p.m. at Crossings Community Church in Oklahoma City.

Ingrid was born on April 2, 1971 and was the treasured daughter of James and Veda Mitchell Lacy. While attending the University of Notre Dame and competing in track and field, she and Monty started their lifelong partnership and commitment to serve. Blessed with 20 years of marriage, their mutual love and commitment to Christ and to one another has built a foundation ensuring that their children will continue to have many opportunities to grow in wisdom, in stature, and in favor with both God and man.

Ingrid was a rock and inspiration to everyone she touched, often writing notes of encouragement and inspiring scripture verses to others. As the wife of an NBA player and coach she inspired many beyond her immediate family, quietly sharing her many gifts with anyone in need. She loved to read her bible and encouraged others to do the same. Ingrid and Monty co-authored a book Look Again 52 as a guide to explore scripture through the year. Ingrid enjoyed organizing “Sanctuary” retreats for family & friends across the United States. Her family attended Faith Bible Church in Oklahoma City.

Ingrid was preceded in death by her brother William Lacy and is survived by her husband and children, parents and siblings James and Renee Lacy and Mark Doss. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends. Ingrid left us a legacy of strength, wisdom, loving kindness & generosity. Her unfailing example of a beautiful life well lived will enrich our hearts forever.

The family wishes to thank all of those whose love, comfort & prayers have helped support them through this time. For more information about Ingrid’s life and legacy or to leave online condolences, go to www.randytheme.dev

Ingrid’s Celebration of Life Ceremony on February 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. will be at Crossings Community Church.  In lieu of flowers, the Williams family has requested that friends honor Ingrid’s memory through the FaithWorks of the Inner City: faithworksokc.com 1300 S. Byers Ave, OKC, OK 73129.

UPDATE:  The family has decided that the Celebration of Life Ceremony will not be available for viewing online.

After my husband told me of Mrs. Williams death, I began to read about her life as a wife, mother, friend, coach’s wife and special lady. I pray her precious children and her adoring husband along with all her family and friends will find comfort in the fact they had the pleasure of knowing Ingrid. May her love and dedication to her God and fellow man continue to shine through each of you. RIP sweet Ingrid. May God comfort and give each of you peace in the coming weeks and months. 21. Jeff and Amber Libbert

    Dear Monty and family,

As I think back to church in New Orleans, and my first meeting with ingrid,it was as a fellow mom, we were both sitting just outside the service, she was soothing a younger one, and we talked, laughed and connected in joy of the journey.
Ingrid exuded grace, faith and joy. She was Gods light, so warm and loving.
Our hearts ache for the pain this side of heaven that passing brings.
We are continuing to lift your family up in prayer, peace and comfort, until reunited and hearing those precious words,”Well done, good and faithful servant .”
    Much love to you all,
    Amber & Jeff Libbert

  22. Heidi Henrickson

Dear Monty and family, close friends of Ingrid,

I knew Ingrid in Paw Paw at school. I was a challenging classmate, someone who just didn’t fit in. I expressed that in the way I looked and acted. Ingrid treated me as she did everyone else. That equality of action is central to creating a better world and I believe Ingrid understood that, even as a teenager herself.

Ingrid was compassionate and kind to me, polite and encouraging. She is a role model for the way we should all treat one another — regardless of our stage of life.

I am sorry to hear of your loss, but I hope these words will offer comfort when you need it.

    My very best,

I don’t know you personally Monty, but have known your mom through church. She shared a book with me that you and your wife co-wrote. Her joy and love was evident when she would share about her visits with you and your lovely wife, Ingrid. We talked about our love for our grandchildren. I remembering sharing one of my favorite scriptures with her, “I have no greater joy than to know my children walk in Truth” 3rd John:4. We believe God works all things for His Glory, may your hearts find His Peace,in the coming days..knowing we will meet again…Sincerely, Linda White

  34. Dear James and Veda Lacy

I cannot tell you enough how sorry I am for the loss of your beautiful daughter. As you may remember, Ingrid was our babysitter for my children when we were you neighbors in Paw Paw. My children loved her as did we. Even though it’s been 30 years since we have seen her, she was never forgotten as we talked of her often. That’s the impact that she left with us and I’m sure many more. The human world will be a lesser place without her. However, for those of us who believe in heaven, we know exactly where she is right now. RIP Ingrid.

May God abundantly bless you all to grieve and heal in your way and on your time and to return to a stable balance in your life. As someone who lost a brother unexpectedly, along with 6 additional relatives within one year (including my mother and father), trust me when I say God will give you the strength, comfort and guidance you need to make peace of this unexpected tragedy. I never realized how extra strong I truly was until the time came for me to put it to the test. It’s amazing what God will do to heal your heart. From all of the wonderful things I have heard about Mrs. Ingrid Williams, it is apparent that she was a beautiful woman with a genuine heart, who touched the hearts of many others. Her legacy will live on through you.

Dear Monty, Lael, Faith, Janna, Elijah, and Micah,

Please accept our most sincere and deepest condolences on the loss of Ingrid. It was very clear to all who knew her how much she loved and cherished all of you, and of the closeness you all shared. We will always cherish our memories of the time spent with her as our girls played along side yours during the basketball and softball seasons at Country Day, along with her good nature, smile, and genuineness. Ours, along with the entire Country Day family is praying for all of you. May Ingrid always rest in peace in God’s loving arms, and may you feel His enduring comfort and grace during this most difficult time.

Dwaine, Yvette, Lauren, Camryn, and Kelsey Dinvaut

  59. Monty, Lael, Faith, Janna, Elijah, and Micah:

Ingrid was such an angel and a blessing to all! I recall the last time I visited when you all were living outside of Philadelphia. Ingrid repeatedly expressed that she wished she give me something, or do something for me as I was preparing to leave. Such an Ingrid expression! Always taking care of others in such a loving, sincere and selfless way. Little did she know that simply spending time with my old friend was more valuable than anything. She was the only friend I made during my time at Notre Dame mainly because I knew her heart was so genuine-and she could really make me laugh!

Please know my prayers and love are with you all. While I don’t think anyone can make sense of this, you all were so blessed to have had heaven on earth in Ingrid for all too short a period of time.

    heart was broken that day!”

This is an excerpt from a poem I wrote entitled ‘Jamie’ about a young
woman who was killed by a dump truck that hit her car, on the very day
her boyfriend was going to propose. Never can we figure out everything
    in this life.

  61. My deepest sympathy to the family. Hold on to your memories and faith! To be absent of the body is to be with Christ.

  62. The Charles Family

Rest Well Mrs Williams. Monty stay strong brother and our prayers are with you and your children.

Thanks for lifting me up and blessing me with your faith! I know that God will work it out and that you and your family will be okay. Ingrid is in heaven singing like the angel she is, watching over you and your children. God Bless You!

  64. Offering sincere condolences. I am so very sorry for the loss of your dear loved one. The Bible gives us a sure hope that very soon we will have the opportunity to see them again by means of the resurrection (Acts 24:15) May your family find comfort in God’s promise of paradise (Psalm 37:29) where there will be no more pain, sickness, or sorrow due to death (Rev. 21:4,5) (JW.org)

  65. Thomas Papadakis

    Monty and kids

I’m a Bible banger and sports fan and only know of Ingrid’s life and death just recently through ESPN. Even here in Greece, the impact of Ingrid’s commitment to Christ is being felt. The Apostle Paul said in I Corinthians 15:19 that us Jesus freaks are actually the most pitiful of all people on earth for our cowardice and/or intellectual dishonesty if we play the “Jesus card” when convenient while having no real assurance that Jesus Himself really did raise from the dead and is living and ruling today as the Bible says He is. Well … PRAISE GOD … Jesus really is the risen, living Lord, and your dear Ingrid really is herself risen and living with Him in heaven, God will continue to be faithful to you all as you continue to look to Him. I and many others are so thankful to God for the testimony of Ingrid’s life, and we’ll continue to lift you up to our Jesus in this very difficult time for the strength and comfort that He surely will provide.

    In Jesus, Tom

  66. Ron and Cassa Good, Billie Jo Dennis

Thank you for your inspiration. Know how much Oklahoma loves you and your family, and you will remain in our thoughts and prayers.

  67. Brother Monty and family,

Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of His saints. Although I do not know you personally, we are knit together by the bonds of Christ Jesus, being in the same body. I give thanks for your powerful testimony of faith and endurance as you face a time of temporary separation from your beloved wife, and mother. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ supply you with comfort and joy, and may your love for the appearing of Christ only increase. For, we know that when He appears, those who have gone on before will be raised and we will forever be with the Lord. Look to Jesus and you will be satisfied.

    Serving a risen Saviour,

I am so proud of you. To Monty, I loved your wife Ingrid, my beautiful cousin, so much that I named my oldest daughter Ingrid and you and the kids will see her again soon. I hope you find comfort in this scripture.

    Hosea 13:14
    14 From the power of the Grave I will redeem them;
From death I will recover them.
Where are your stings, O Death?
Where is your destructiveness, O Grave?

Be blessed at this time and thank you and your family for showing in the flesh what Christ is in his spirit. You are a fine example of those who follow our Lord.

  75. Dear Monty, children, and the Williams and Lacy families,

Although I was never fortunate enough to meet Ingrid or Monty, I first came to learn of of their strong Christian faith and selflessness as a freshman in college, when I too was diagnosed with a life threatening disease that cut short my athletic career. Reading of Monty’s humble acceptance of his plight, and Ingrid’s support and reassurance that God has a plan and could heal Monty’s heart, both literally and figuratively, was a comfort and inspiration to me, and has enabled me to accept and embrace my own ailment as part of God’s divine plan. They were and are shining examples of how dedication and love of the Lord has ripple effects beyond one’s ability to perceive it. Ingrid and Monty’s example helped me grow in faith, and they’ve never met me.

As a lifelong Irish fan, I too became a Notre Dame student when I attended grad school there, and already Monty and Ingrid were my favorite Irish athletes of all time. As a student, and now alumnus of ND, I have felt a closer connection to them both. Please know that the Notre Dame community is lifting you up in prayer during your grief, for your comfort and healing, and for the repose of your dear wife, mother, daughter’s beautiful soul. She will always be with you and you will see her again, in the comfort and paradise of the Lord’s beatific vision.

    Sincerely,
    Peter

    To the Williams family,
I want to say that your family was a breath of fresh air to our neighborhood, in Louisiana.
Monty, I remember when you all first moved there, I saw you digging up the grass along the street and planted ground cover. You actually found time to do this yourself , with all that was going on with your new move and new job.
Then I read that you were very close to your grandfather, and enjoyed landscaping at an early age.
I also remember that whenever my husband and I saw you, and wished you luck on the up coming game, your reply was ” it’s in God’s hands”!
Ingrid was the sweetest, kindest, most God like person I ever met. She would walk with the boys to the neighborhood playground, talk to the people there, while assisting the little one on the slides and climbing equipment.
Ingrid always had that beautiful smile , a soft voice, with words of faith.
As she would drive down the street , always picking up or dropping off the kids, she would toot the horn , if I was outside , and I would do the same to her .
When I brought cookies to them, she would thank me, and the kids would thank me with there beautiful smiles too.
It hurts now when I pass the house without you all, the playground is not the same.
I ordered something for the family to remember Ingrid.
It was something that has always reminded me of her. I will text you Monty if your old number is still good.
Ingrid didn’t just become an angel, she was an angel walking, on earth !
Monty you two were an unbelievable couple. You took the high road with the Pelicans, and you did it again with the lady that hit Ingrid.
I strive to be like you in life . Love to you and the family , Beverly & George

    To Monty and Family,
I met you and your family at your mother’s home several years ago, but I felt like I already knew you from the dozens of conversations I have had with Joyce about you. Joyce and I have been friends for over 20 years and she has always been so proud of you and your accomplishments. She loved Ingrid so much as her very own daughter. My heart is heavy at the loss of Ingrid and I pray for you and your children as you mourn her loss. You have a lovely family and I know the Lord will bless you continue as you continue on this earthly journey.

    Peace and blessings,
    Nancy Gordon

  78. Dear Coach Monty and Family,

Thanks for sharing information about the woman you married.
It was a marriage made in Heaven. I will continue to pray that you find peace and not question, why. Your wife has served her purpose in Gods eye and although this is quite painful, I know you will see the children through this difficult time.

May God continue to be with you and guide you.
    Friend in Christ

  79. Hope Laird

May Our Good Lord continue to surround you and comfort both you and your family at this difficult time. God is too wise to be foolish, too kind to be cruel, when you don’t understand his hand, trust his heart. My family and I continue to pray for you.
