Mangold, age 97, died Wednesday, May 16, 2013, at Bradford Village care facility in Edmond, Oklahoma. She was born November 14, 1915 in Fennimore, Wisconsin to William (Will) and Ethel (Lewis) Morrison. Kathryn grew up in Fennimore and Dubuque, Iowa where she graduated from high school and the University of Dubuque. She and Glenn Mangold were married on May 11, 1936. She took pride in her education as a teacher and her later nursing career. Kaye, as Glenn called her, was a positive role model as wife and mother, supporting her family and friends with love and kindness. With a lifelong commitment to the Methodist Church, she was a woman of strong faith in God. She enjoyed church activities, playing the piano, singing and directing choirs, reading, working at the Edmond hospital as a “pink lady,” and the companionship of fellow educators in Kappa Kappa Iota. After moving to Edmond in 1984, she developed wonderful friendships with the women from her Forum Sunday School class and the Lydia Circle at the First United Methodist Church. She often said that moving to Edmond began a new adventure in her life.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Ethel; her sister, Helen and brother-in-law Joseph Baus; and husband, Glenn. She is survived by daughter, Helen and husband Richard Peters of Edmond; sons Glenn, Jr. of Miami, Oklahoma and Franklin and wife Wanda of Las Vegas, Nevada; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be Tuesday, May 21, at 11:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Edmond with interment at the GAR Cemetery in Miami, Oklahoma at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the First United Methodist Church of Edmond or a charity of your choice. During her husband’s career as an officer in the Air Force, she lived in Germany, Japan, Taiwan, and numerous U.S. bases. In Washington, D.C., she served on the board of the Officers’ Wives Club where she worked with diplomats and Congressmen, and she was one of the Arlington Ladies at the National Cemetery. She spoke fluent Mandarin Chinese and taught English to wives of the Nationalist Chinese General Staff while her husband was the Command Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Taiwan. Following the death of her husband in an aircraft accident in Taiwan in 1971, she returned to Idabel where she lived until she moved to Edmond in 2006 to be near her children. Marty was a strong Christian and a member of the Presbyterian Church. In Idabel, she served as an Elder, and she continued attending church after moving to Edmond. Marty was an elegant, strong-minded lady who was loving, generous, and intelligent, and leaves behind many close friends and relatives.
